Chance the Rapper, real name Chancelor Johnathan Bennett, has been in the Christian media’s eye for several months after pulling a publicity stunt on Instagram declaring his “faith” in God. The rapper, who regularly recites lyrics containing explicit lyrics, racial slurs, and references to sex and nudity, recently appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show to spread his false Jesus.

In the video, Ellen asks him what it is that made him become so generous, to which he replied emphatically, “Jesus.”

“Jesus teaches to care for your neighbor and care for people that aren’t necessarily your blood, but still a part of your body because we’re all humans,” he said. “That’s an impactful thing that I understood more as I got older.”

As true believers, we can be assured that the Jesus Chance the Rapper proclaims is not the Jesus of the Bible. Had he proclaimed the true Jesus, Ellen, the lesbian LGBTQ activist, would have hand-carried him right off the set. The Jesus of the Bible has no tolerance for unrepentant sin and rebellion and declares that those who continue in sin will perish (Luke 13:3-5) and never see the Kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-11).

Further, all the hoop-lah coming from Christian media outlets such as the Christian Post and CBN — the charismatic prosperity gospel news network — surrounding this man’s supposed conversion is ill-informed. While the lyrics from his newest album — which are post “conversion,” mind you — are wrought with lyrics containing racial slurs, references to sex and nudity, and explicit language. Are these the fruits of a born-again Christian or are they the fruits of a false convert using Jesus to advance his career?

The Christian Post recently reported on this, painting the rap artist as some kind of super Christian and praising him for his generous giving to causes such as education and mental health,

Chance’s awakening came after he completed his Grammy Award-winning album Coloring Book during a time while he and his then girlfriend-now-wife, Kirsten, were separated.

The only problem is, Chance doesn’t appear to have had a true awakening — he appears to be even more deceived than he was before his supposed conversion. Believing that Jesus is all about charity and generosity is the ultimate deception. Jesus isn’t primarily about charity — in fact, the charity that Jesus taught was ultimately to point people to His mercy. Apart from His mercy and grace, it will be Jesus Himself who has them brought before him to be slaughtered (Luke 19:28) and cast into the outer darkness (Matthew 25:30).
