Gay Advocacy Group Says Hillsong Leaders Are Privately Gay-Affirming, But Won’t Publicly Admit It

A gay church advocacy group recently stated that there are leaders at Hillsong at all levels who are gay-affirming, but because it’s a controversial subject, they aren’t ready to come forth with it.

Ambassadors and Bridge Builders International (ABBI) is a gay advocacy group whose mission is, according to its website,

to create understanding and acceptance for LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex) people, empower community members and build bridges with religious organisations and leaders.

ABBI recently published an article that detailed Hillsong’s history with gay-conversion therapy, their banning of the practice, and what the future holds for Hillsong’s LGBTQ inclusion. In the article, the author poses the question, “Are there people in Hillsong who are affirming?”

Yes. There are people at all levels who have already come to understand that the term ‘gay Christian’ is not an oxymoron, but they are in the minority. That includes Pastors, leaders, musicians, singers and congregants. These alternative beliefs are never stated publically.as the ‘homosexual issue’ is the most controversial, divisive and contentious issue facing churches such as Hillsong.

It will take time for things to change, just as it has in western society more broadly. Factors that created change in society were visibility (people coming out), a growing acceptance of science, and the defiance of LGBT people. Together and as individuals, gay people had the defiance to reject the labels placed upon them by the law that they were deviates and perverts who should be locked away, and by mental health professionals that they were sick and in need of healing. Of more recent times, gay Christians have come out and refused to accept the decades-old narrative that they were intrinsically disordered, broken and undeserving of the Creators love.

Of course, discerning Christians already know that Hillsong is a pro-LGBTQ organization which has only acted to cover-up its pro-gay activity when it faces backlash from the broader Evangelical Church. Hillsong, for years, has tried to ride the fence on the issue prompting gay activists to petition Hillsong to come clean. Earlier this year, after a debacle with one of Hillsong’s celebrity members, Christ Pratt, Hillsong issued a statement stating that it was not anti-LGBTQ.

We are an inclusive Christian church that loves, values and welcomes all people, regardless of their background, ethnicity, beliefs, values, or personal identity.

Hillsong knowingly had openly gay celebrities leading their choir at the New York City location under the supervision of their senior pastor, Carl Lentz.

According to the insiders who are closely associated with Hillsong, it is merely a matter of time before they come out of the closet and fully embrace homosexuality. Apparently, they are already doing it privately, and, over time, the church will morph into a pro-sodomy church by “osmosis.”

Heresy of the Day #24: Generational Curses

I recently saw a video clip of false teacher Kathryn Krick claiming to free a woman of the “generational curses” of abuse, and it was difficult to watch. The woman was obviously hurt, sad, and noticeably emotional. And here was Krick, exploiting this poor woman for...

Can We Get Over John Piper Already?

It seems that over the last several years, Evangelicalism has taken a sharp turn in leadership, leaving many empty chairs that were once filled with prominent voices. I think this turn started in 2017 when we lost R.C. Sproul. He was a voice the church looked to for...

Consumerism and the Worship of Worship

Somewhere along the way, the church stopped asking how God wants to be worshiped and started asking what people will show up for. We have spent decades perfecting an experience God never commanded. Not because our doctrinal statements changed. They often haven’t. Not...
