Before you launch attacks at me contending that it was actually Donald Trump’s plan to pull troops out of Afghanistan, let me start with the disclaimer; I already know that. And I’ve considered it, heavily. And I began my thought process on this issue thinking the same thing. Thankfully, a little bit of rational thought and sound reason has brought me to a place of repentance (not in the biblical sense, as in from sin, but mental repentance, as in, I’ve changed my mind).

First, it is true that Trump planned to pull troops from Afghanistan. There is no argument against that. The bottom line is that we must pull our troops from Afghanistan. That alone was not a bad decision. Our nation cannot afford–either financially or with our lives–to continue in an endless war in the Middle East trying to change the culture of a people who are apparently content without change. We can lead a horse to water, but we can’t make him drink. Twenty years in, we’re still trying to make that horse drink–and he’s dying of thirst.

All that being said, there is no doubt that competent leadership in this massive military maneuver is required, and in Joe Biden, we do not have that.

Literally, nobody of sound mind–either on the right or the left–is denying that the way Biden has handled this pull-out of Afghanistan is a disaster. Even some of Biden’s strongest supporters have turned against him and are complaining that his handling of this situation is disastrous. Biden’s approval ratings are currently at the lowest they’ve been since he took office and somewhere between 70-80 percent of Americans disapprove of his handling of Afghanistan.

Not to re-hash the arguments we’ve made over and over about why voting for Biden and against Trump would be destructive and ill-fated for this nation; we believe that in the minds of sane people, that is obvious. But we must now try to understand the cause of the disaster. And much of it has to do with Evangelicals.

Believe it or not, Evangelicals are a voting force to be reckoned with. While I do not believe that most professing Evangelicals are true, born-again believers saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, historically, at least the majority of them have held to a minimum standard biblical worldview; i.e. the sanctity of human life, pro-family, and pro-capitalism. In the last four years, that changed.

Over the last four years, we’ve seen a massive Evangelical shift away from traditional conservative politics rooted in a sound biblical worldview. Evangelicals have traded biblical values for social justice. In 2014, this started in the Southern Baptist Convention with Russell Moore. Moore made it his mission as the leader of the largest Protestant denomination’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) to sway Evangelicals away from conservative politics opening the door for a much more sinister movement known as the third way. It began by convincing people that politics is separate from your theological worldview and it’s possible to be a Bible-believing Christian in good standing with God while disagreeing on important issues in the political realm.

Historically, this has never been true; at least not for Southern Baptists and conservative Evangelicals. And biblically-speaking, it still isn’t true. But, in the minds of millions of Southern Baptists, that is now true.

To demonstrate this, much of the rhetoric revolved around the social justice movement. After Russell Moore spent years convincing Southern Baptists that non-white people are “oppressed” by white people and that the gospel requires Christians to activate their faith by embracing a movement to oppose this “oppression,” it soon became clear that the movement we were to embrace was progressive politics. Russell Moore began Evangelical movements to remove Confederate flags from the state Capitol buildings, he started pushing for open borders and amnesty, and more.

Whether it be Moore’s breaking bread with the gay community, his softening tone on homosexualityreferring to Jesus as an “illegal alien,” promotion and teaching of inherent “white guilt” by sole virtue of skin color, yoking with Democrat and socialist groups, serving as an editor for a Catholic magazinecoddling the transgender communitypartnering with animal rights groups and referring to animal rights as a “gospel issue,” fighting for the right to build an Islamic mosqueaccepting donations from billionaire leftists like George Soros to advance open-borders and amnesty, publishing articles claiming that the Bible affirms gender fluidity, or making the absolutely asinine claim that Western culture is demonic, one thing is for certain, Russell Moore‘s agenda wasn’t just social justice, but overtly progressive; Russell Moore is a Democrat acting like a Democrat.

In 2016, as Donald Trump began to campaign for office, Russell Moore set his scope on Trump and never took it off. For an entire year, Moore relentlessly attacked Donald Trump while promoting leftists like Hillary Clinton. Despite the fact that Trump, after he was elected, proved to govern like an actual conservative, Moore and his growing base of Trump-hating allies never took their sights off of him. While Russell Moore would never overtly state that Southern Baptists should vote for the Democrat–he knew that would be career suicide for him–he knew that all he needed to do was convince enough Evangelicals to not vote for Trump. He had to convince everyone that voting for Trump would be un-Christian and unacceptable.

He was very successful.

During those four years, we saw a massive number of Southern Baptist leaders begin to embrace the “third way.” Other Southern Baptist leaders would regularly speak out against Trump’s “bad behavior” despite the fact the alternative would be much worse; which it has proven to be.

Out of Russell Moore’s movement rose a group called Pro-life Evangelicals for Biden. This group wasn’t just pro-life “in the womb,” they are “pro-life from the womb to the tomb.” In other words, their leftist policies weren’t only going to decrease the need for abortion, thereby having the effect of ending abortion, but they were also going to fight for the oppressed non-white people in this nation and against the white oppressors who are slaughtering them in the streets daily.

At least, that is their asinine rationale.

Nonetheless, those Pro-life Evangelicals for Biden were shocked and surprised when the Biden administration did nothing to decrease abortion; only to increase abortion.

Shocker, I know. They expected Democrats to not act like Democrats. But they did act like Democrats. In the meantime, at least Donald Trump wasn’t tweeting mean, racist, oppressive things anymore.

But what about that “pro-life from womb to tomb” thing? I mean, sure, maybe more babies are being murdered daily, but at least black people aren’t being gunned down by white police every day, right? Wrong! Nothing has changed. Nothing. In fact, statistically speaking, the Democrat politics that have gained traction in leftists cities empowered by the Biden administration’s anti-police rhetoric has only served to cause more, not less, death of non-whites in America.

But to add shaved coconut icing to that slice of disgusting carrot cake with walnuts, Biden’s policies are now killing and persecuting Christians–and Muslims–around the world. Just look at what’s taking place in Afghanistan; the Christian pastors are scared to death for their lives as Biden flees the country in a disastrously disordered manner allowing the Taliban to swiftly swoop in and take control. Nearly immediately, in a matter of two days, two decades and two trillion dollars have been flushed down the Islamic toilet. What little bit of Christianity has been allowed to flourish in Afghanistan over the last two decades will now become extinct. Its followers, exterminated.

Evangelicals for Biden; shocked! Shocked I tell you.

Exhibit A: Beth Moore, she didn’t vote for Biden, she just voted against Trump. Remember what I said earlier; leftists don’t need Evangelicals to vote for the Democrat, they just need them to not vote for the conservative.

And of course, there’s JD Greear, the Southern Baptist president during the majority of Trump’s term in office. He, too, is surprised that a Democrat would act like a Democrat. No way we should have focused on teaching Christians how to think biblically about political issues and seek a competent leader for this nation; you know, Christians can agree to disagree…and stuff.

And, we couldn’t finish without giving at least a nod to Danny Akin, president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS). Remember, Danny, you said “vote your conscience.”

Instead of owning their own responsibility in this debacle, they all act like they didn’t know this was going to happen. They all act like they didn’t know an incompetent administration led by an incompetent man was going to do incompetent things. Incompetency breeds incompetency; it’s why Critical Race Theory consumes the staff at SEBTS.

What these Southern Baptist leaders should be doing–which they won’t–is admitting they were wrong, apologizing for their own theological incompetency, and getting out of the way so godly voices can speak godly wisdom into this dastardly situation. It’s the best we can hope for at this point. The damage has been done and it must be laid squarely on the shoulders of those who helped put Joe Biden in office.
