New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued new guidance allowing for the third phase of reopening in the State of New York amid the coronavirus pandemic. As the numbers continue to decline across the spectrum, including deaths and hospitalizations, the new rules allow for gatherings of up to 25 people in one place. Cuomo has called on local governments in the state to “strictly enforce” the new social distancing rules. However, the rules don’t apply to anti-police protests of thousands upon thousands of people.

Covid tracers in New York have been ordered not to ask about their involvement in the protests rendering the tracing program effectively useless. There has been no enforcement of the social distancing rules in New York as it relates to the protests and are currently no plans to enforce the rules. However, NYC officials have ordered the closing of all parks for Jewish communities and even welded the gates shut on a children’s playground.
