Reformation Charlotte has been uncovering the debacle surrounding this year’s Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting and Pastors’ Conference that precedes the meeting. David Uth is the pastor in charge of this years’ conference and he is the same man who invited all of the homosexuals in Orlando to take the stage in his church after the gay nightclub shooting in 2016.

Further, Uth allowed another pastor to refer to the “LGBTQ community” as the “head cornerstone,” — a title reserved for Christ Himself. David Uth is the pastor of FBC Orlando, a Southern Baptist megachurch and in 2015 at the SBC annual meeting, Uth affirmed an ex-Muslim’s “dream-conversion” story who said she converted to Christianity when Jesus came to her in a dream though she had never heard the gospel.

The issue surrounding this year’s Pastors’ Conference is deeply rooted in the lack of ability to make sound, biblical judgments on people who are qualified to address the thousands of pastors who will be attending the conference in June. For example, Uth invited a woman who is in open rebellion to God to take the stage and speak and also invited another pastor whose church is literally a circus — including sexually explicit sermon series.

Now, it has come to light that not only is David Uth — the pastor responsible for inviting all of these problematic people to speak — lacking in serious discernment and biblical fidelity, but he also hosted a gay Christian conference at his church in 2017.

Revoice is the “gay Christian” movement that has been largely condemned by conservative Evangelicals and even condemned by more moderates including Al Mohler. Revoice is led by openly-gay but “celibate” men who claim to be Christians but whose sexual orientation is not (and cannot be) changed. This movement, led by people like Nate Collins and Preston Sprinkle, advocate for acceptance and inclusion of homosexuals in the ranks of Christianity and those who choose to remain single (from the opposite sex) should form close, intimate, marriage-like relationships with people of the same sex with the exception that the abstain from intercourse.

It should, however, come as a surprise that a Southern Baptist leader — one with enough influence to choose who gets to address the pastors of the annual meeting — would host a conference featuring these men at his church. Interestingly, it doesn’t.

In 2017, First Baptist Church of Orlando pastored by David Uth invited Nate Collins, Bill Henson, and Preston Sprinkle to hold the Posture Shift Intensives conference at his church. According to the description on the event website,

Lead Them Home presents Posture Shift Intensives, our 2-day course to train churches and ministries on effective LGBT+ outreach, care and relational skills. Bring your whole leadership team (at a discounted price) to transform your church’s capacity to live out the Gospel for LGBT+ people in your congregation and community.

And further, they were allowed to propagandize their “gay celibate Christian” materials at the church event.

Conservatives are questioning if this is this really who the Southern Baptist Convention thinks should be choosing the speaker line-up at the annual meeting?
