Dan Smith is the senior pastor of United Church of Gallatin, TN who was arrested in 2009 for driving under the influence of alcohol and had to step down from ministry but recently came back to plant this church.

During a recent sermon, Smith called out a mother in the congregation during his preaching and asked the ushers to โ€œshow her where the nursery isโ€ because he โ€œdoesnโ€™t want to struggle with a child the whole time.โ€

The grandmother posted her frustration with the debacle โ€” which was recorded and apparently not even edited out โ€” on her Facebook page, writing,

My daughter and her friend walked out of United Church in Gallatin today after she was pointed out and embarrassed in front of a congregation. The baby in question was 15 months old and just made a peep. Was not crying. As you can see for yourself in this video. How can this pastor call himself a man of God and treat a member of your congregation that way and dont care if anyone is offended. I donโ€™t know what is worse, the embarrassing of a member or the fact he did not care if he offended anyone. So sad in a society where we need to bring our young people to God and they are chased off because they have a young child. Iโ€™m sorry, but kids make some noise, And this wasnโ€™t a noise that was distracting. Now, if she was crying, I can see a problem. My daughter was pretty upset and disappointed because she was looking for a church and found this one to be of her liking. Sadly enough, she is back on her quest to find a church that she can feel at home in and raise her baby with the word of God.

The embarrassing event seemed to have caused a stir in the congregation when Smith had to stop once again to justify his actions. This is not a pastor, but a charlatan who isnโ€™t concerned about the family, but himself.

We Need to Address the Churchโ€™s Bondage to Hollywood

If our church members fall into the habit of frequenting the theatre, we shall soon have them going much further in the direction of vice, and they will lose all relish for the ways of God. If theatre-going became general among professing Christians, it would be the...

If Evangelicals Want to Become Catholic, We Should Let Them Go

Let them go. Really, let them. If your spiritual appetite can be satisfied by the incense-choked pageantry of Romeโ€”by genuflecting before a golden cage of transubstantiated flourโ€”then it was never Christ that you hungered for to begin with. If you're willing to trade...
