Sometimes, you have to scratch your head and wonder if some of the people in celebrity Christianity have any self-awareness at all. Like, what if Beth Moore came out and said “women preaching to men is unbiblical and dangerous,” we would wonder if she had completely lost it.

Now, having known some of Keith and Kristyn Getty’s music over the years — and knowing of them — they, at least for now, seem to be on the more conservative end of the Contemporary Christian Music spectrum. However, in a recent interview with the Christian Post, it’s almost laughable that Keith would take the self-defeating position that he has.

According to the CP, Getty said many modern worship songs focus on emotionalism rather than sound doctrine and Scriptural truths and it leads to a generation ill-equipped to understand or defend the Christian faith. I couldn’t agree more.

The Gettys have written a number of hymns that are, in comparison to most CCM, sound and biblical. However, Getty throws the vast majority of modern worship music under the bus, according to the CP interview.

An authentic generation doesn’t begin with catharsis; it has to begin with an authentic picture of the God of the Bible.Over 75 percent of what are called the great hymns of the faith talk about eternity, Heaven, Hell, and the fact that we have peace with God. Yet, less than 5 percent of modern worship songs talk about eternity.

Getty went on to tell the Christian Post,

Many worship songs are focused on this Earth. I believe that the modern worship movement is a movement for cultural relevance It’s a de-Christianizing of God’s people. It’s utterly dangerous. I have no quibbles saying, ‘Enough is enough.’ This can’t happen to build an authentic generation.

Reformation Charlotte has covered a number of modern worship artists and the bad doctrine that they emit from their ministries. Consider, for example, Kari Jobe’s Sexualizing of God’s Love and Word of Faith Heresy, Kari Jobe, Hillsong, Bethel Music Steeped in Pagan Idolatry, and The Dangerous Cult of Hillsong. In fact, one of Hillsong’s most famous songwriters — because of a lack of grounding his faith in sound theology — recently renounced his Christianity altogether.

I’ve long argued that modern worship music is nothing more than a pre-packaged emotionalistic experience designed to attract the world inside the doors of the church. What we hear on the stages of modern Evangelical churches isn’t worship — it’s a production. It’s man-centered and steals the glory from God. Most modern worship artists look and act effeminate — for some reason, that’s a trend. And charismatic outlets like Charisma Mag have no problem promoting openly gay worship artists.

Why? Because it’s not about God and it’s not about worship. It’s about the art, itself. And modern worship has long lost its first love which should be promoting the glory of God and the gospel of His son Jesus Christ. Instead, it’s exchanged the glory of God for mortality, temporality, and carnality.
