The Roman Catholic Church is a false church. This is an undeniable fact from the vantage point of any sane, Bible-believing Christian. One cannot walk away from a serious reading of the Scriptures and leave with Roman Catholic theology. It simply does not work. Their ecclesiology is false, their worship is false, and their gospel is false.

But two areas where Roman Catholics have historically stood strong, at least from a general revelation perspective, are abortion and homosexuality. That is, until recent years.

In a day of modern rebellion against God and his design for creation, homosexuality and sexually deviant issues are at the forefront of this uprising. In the modern sexual revolution, homosexuals, transgenders, and other sexual deviants are demanding that the world change its views and accept their aberrant lifestyle as normal and even celebrate it. To not do so, in this day and age, is to rebel against society.

God’s design for sexuality is not a Christian-specific doctrine — it is revealed to us in creation. God’s design is natural and to oppose God’s design is to reject God altogether. This is why even a false Church — the Roman Catholic Church — can for so long hold to the revealed truths of God’s design revealed to us in nature. “For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. (Romans 1:19-20)”

Yet, the fact that a false convert to God — which, by the way, is not limited to the Roman Catholic Church — can so easily be swayed when the tides of culture changes goes to show that those who rely solely on the general revelation of God yet have not been born again into Christ have no power to stand against the culture. In other words, their deadness is exposed by the persecution placed upon them, so they cave.

This is exactly what is happening in the Roman Catholic Church right now, as myriad homosexuals and sexual deviants demand to have their place in the Church. Recently, the archbishop of Washington D.C., told a transgender Catholic,

You belong to the heart of this church. There is nothing that you may do, may say, that will rip you from the heart of this church. There is a lot that has been said to you, about you, behind your back that is painful and is sinful. I mentioned my conversation with Fortunate Families. We have to find a way to talk to one another, and to talk to one another not just from one perspective, but to talk and to listen to one another. I think that’s the way that Jesus ministered. He engaged people, he took them where they were at, and he invited them to go deeper, closer to God. If you’re asking me where do you fit, you fit in the family.

As the sexual revolution persists, more and more of the false churches, false teachers, and false converts will be exposed. While we Christians may look at this and shriek as it appears that the culture is moving further away from God, we must realize that God is purifying his bride by making it known who are the true and who are the false. Historically, the Church has thrived during seasons of persecution. Jesus himself said he came not to bring peace, but a sword (Matthew 10:34). The sword of the word of God will divide us through persecution. He who endures to the end will be saved (Matthew 24:13).
