When a true believer goes to church on Sunday morning, they expect the Scriptures to be opened, read, and taught. They expect God to be honored and worshiped in spirit and in truth. They expect the Word of God to convict us of our sin and encourage us in our walk, pointing us to the cross and drawing us near to Him.
Yet, for the vast majority of so-called churches, that is a fantasy.
Charles Spurgeon once predicted that โA time will come when instead of shepherds feeding the sheep, the church will have clowns entertaining the goats!โ Well, that time is not just here, itโs already a tired, tragic joke. Weโve moved beyond mere entertainment to outright defilement of the pulpit.
Itโs not just clowns entertaining goats anymoreโitโs these self-proclaimed โchurchesโ shamelessly attributing their irreverent circus acts to God as if Heโs some sort of celestial ringmaster behind their circus acts.
In our latest example, LCBS Church, a multi-campus megachurch with over 20 locations throughout Pennsylvania, transformed one of its campuses into a fully functional Willy Wonka themed movie set. I mean, you wonโt believe the astronomical amount of time, money, and effort that went into this. And the past, at the ends, finishes with โmaybe theyโll be introduced to Jesus.โ
What a joke.
