Among the myriad of daunting challenges that confront us in contemporary times, one stands out as particularly insidious—the deeply ingrained mentality that regards everything as easily disposable. The unbridled convenience afforded by the omnipresence of disposable items has engendered a throwaway culture, one that callously undermines the innate value of the environment that sustains us.

The growing trend of disposable consumerism has led to the development of a throwaway culture, characterized by a preference for convenience and a disregard for the long-term consequences of our actions. Cheaply-made products, often imported from countries like China, flood our markets and are designed to be discarded after a short period of use. However

Yet, the consequences of this mentality extend far beyond the scope of contemporary environmentalism and our understanding of the value of material goods. The ramifications of this mindset infiltrate our perception of human life at its core. The deeply troubling notion that human lives can be regarded as disposable commodities is, in many ways, even more disconcerting than the devaluation of material possessions.

The devaluation of human life is most evident in the widespread acceptance of abortion. Today, if a mother decides she doesn’t want or need her unborn child, she can simply walk into a pharmacy, buy a pill, and dispose of her child later that day—flushing him or her down the toilet. It is heartbreaking to see how easily parents can choose to end the life of their unborn child with a simple pill.

But, as Christians, are we doing enough to battle this contemporary mindset? We must remember that every life is a gift from God, and no one has the right to take it away (Psalm 139:13-16). Of course, we want any form of abortion to be illegal, and we want all unborn children, regardless of gestational age, to be treated with the same dignity and rights as any other living human being. And we want all who are involved in the pre-meditated killing of a child, including the mothers, to be held accountable under the law as equally as they would be for the pre-meditated murder against any other human being.

But just as equally, we want to speak to the collective conscience of a society that has normalized such heinous crimes against humanity and confront this evil with the light of the gospel. As we see all throughout Scripture, God’s word, which is light, when brought into conflict with darkness, always prevails and never returns void.

Every human being, regardless of their background or circumstances, is created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and possesses intrinsic value and worth. It is our responsibility to uphold the sanctity of human life and advocate for the protection of those who are vulnerable. We must stand against the culture of self-entitlement that promotes the destruction of innocent life

In John 10:10, Jesus tells us that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. The throwaway culture we see today is an example of how the enemy seeks to erode our love for life and our compassion for others. As Christians, we must be vigilant against the schemes of the enemy and continually affirm the sanctity of human life.

Instead of succumbing to the pressures of a throwaway culture, let us embrace the love and grace of God. By championing the truth of God’s word, advocating for justice for the unborn, and demonstrating Christ-like love and compassion, we can promote a culture that cherishes every human life as a precious gift from Him. But we must not rely on the gimmicks of the world, the hand-outs and bribery of the faux pro-life movement, and the compromised half-convictions of the sell-outs who just want to please men. We must instead confront this wickedness with bold truth, advocate for strong accountability, and offer the grace found only in Jesus Christ.
