Brandan Robertson has been in the headlines quite a bit in the last year or so as he is an openly gay, self-described “pastor” who opposed traditional, biblical theology while installing himself as a biblical scholar and theologian. Robertson is an advocate for sexual immorality and teaches that premarital sex is “good” and “healthy.” Of course, conservative Bible-believing Christians would never consider Robertson’s claims to Christianity valid, but the world sees things like this and brings reproach upon Christ.

Robertson made the news last year when he claimed that Jesus used a “racial slur” in Mark chapter 7 during the account of the Syrophoenician woman. Robertson said that the woman essentially bucked up to Jesus causing Jesus to “repent” of his racism and then “do the work” he was supposed to do. Obviously absurd.

Robertson also attempted to argue that the story of Jesus commanding Lazarus to “come out” was ackshuallyyyy about commanding him to come out of the closet as a homosexual. Bizarre, I know. But that isn’t the most bizarre of all things he’s taught. Robertson, who writes for a major “Baptist” publication, Baptist News Global, argues that unless you support government-funded anti-HIV pills that allow gays to have sex without the risk of catching aids, then you aren’t truly a Christian.

Robertson is now attempting to argue that the Bible nowhere condemns pre-marital sex and that the word “fornication” in the Bible is actually a mistranslation.

Robertson goes on to argue that the word “fornication” doesn’t actually encompass what the Scriptures actually teach about the Greek word porneia which Strongs defines as “properly, of illicit sexual intercourse in general.” Of course, Robertson’s argumentation is nothing more than a complete stretch to try to justify his own sexually aberrant behavior while leading others like him astray. In reality, even without the use of that word, sex outside of marriage is strongly condemned as we can see from Paul’s discourse on marriage in 1 Corinthians 7:

Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. —1 Corinthians 7:1-2

Paul then goes on to say that if one cannot practice self-control outside of marriage, then one must marry. “For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.” And never mind that Scripture is replete with examples, both spiritual and physical, of those who practice extra-marital sex being referred to as “whores,” “harlots,” and “prostitutes.” One cannot read the Scriptures and walk away believing that God is okay with this behavior. Only an extremely depraved and given-over mind could even remotely pretend to come to that conclusion.
