Yesterday, we published an article lambasting The Gospel Coalition for publishing an article that compared Jesus’ relationship with the Church to a man’s relationship with his wife. In the article at TGC, the author, Joshua Butler, went into graphic detail describing Jesus’ as “penetrating” his Bride and depositing His “seed” into her the same way a man does when he has sex with his wife.
To say the least, it was bizarre. Very bizarre. And gross.
But it wasn’t just conservative bloggers like us here at The Dissenter that ratioed them to the point of absolute humiliation—even the leftists on social media were very unpleased. One outlet, called the New Evangelicals, a far-left pro-gay “Evangelical” organization that exists for the sole reason of opposing biblical Christianity even tweeted:
A rare occasion that I share the same sentiment. But the pressure grew from everyone everywhere, which led us to tweet out:
Well, apparently, they heeded our advice and finally removed this hideous article. The article, which was an excerpt from Joshua Butler’s book, Beautiful Union, was still removed for the wrong reasons. Apparently, the reason they removed it wasn’t that it was gross, unbiblical, and blasphemous, but because it “lacked sufficient context” and basically, we were just all too stupid to understand it.
At the URL where the article was previously, we now see the following explanation in place of the original writing:
We recognize that the adapted excerpt from Josh Butler’s forthcoming book Beautiful Union lacked sufficient context to be helpful in this format. The excerpt was taken from the first chapter of Beautiful Union, and you can download and read the entire introduction and first chapter here.
I’ll take a hard pass on reading anything else from this guy, he’s said enough already and we know where his mind is. But it really isn’t difficult to tell just by looking at him how such an article made it on TGC to begin with.
