Glenn E. Yothers, 56, the treasurer of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mount Pleasant Township in Pennsylvania, was busted this week and charged with theft after admitting to state troopers that he stole over $150,000 in church funds and spent it on porn sites.

According to reports, Yothers was initially approached two years ago after the congregation raised concerns about the bills being unpaid. “At one point, the utilities of the church were shut off and the church almost shut down due to Yothers not paying bills,” State Trooper Robert Politowski wrote in court documents.

When approached about numerous checks being written to himself out of the church funds, Yothers denied any wrongdoing and said that he had been paying the bills out of his personal account and reimbursing himself. Politowski said that Yothers, who kept all the church’s financial records in his home, including checks, was eventually removed from his position as treasurer after the church’s troubles continued.

Court documents state that a financial audit by the church exposed $150,606 that had been deposited into his personal account through the end of 2019. Upon the state troopers’ investigation into the matter, they found numerous payments from his debit card to a website called “Flirt for Free.” Yothers confirmed that this was a porn website, but stated that he was making “charity donations” to the website’s participants.

Yothers and church staff were both approached for comment and both parties declined but a church official stated that the church council was slated to meet and discuss the issue.
