Now We Know Why Campus Crusade is Sliding Left, George Soros is Funding Them

There is no denying that Evangelicalism has taken a sharp turn toward the left over the past decade. The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) has all but departed the faith to embrace the social gospel. The Presbyterian Church (PCA) has all but embraced homosexuality though Revoice and its many sponsors. But another interesting component to all of this is the “why?”

We’ve already revealed that the Southern Baptist Convention, namely Russell Moore, the head of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission receives funding from George Soros’ Open Society to fund his efforts for open borders and amnesty. Moore is also one of the heads of the Evangelical Immigration Table which is a front group for the National Immigration Forum which has admitted to receiving funding from Soros.

Now, we are revealing to our readers that not only is Moore being paid by leftist billionaires to push a progressive agenda, but so is Cru.

Cru, formerly Campus Crusade for Christ, is a worldwide mission organization with a focus on students. The organization has branches around the world and on many high school and college campuses but also holds conferences that advance the objective of the organization.

Within Cru, there are at least two well-known popular speakers and authors who inform and train other Cru leaders as well as speak regularly at events and conferences. The first one, Matt Mikalatos, is a Cru leader out of Portland Oregon who refers to himself as a “male feminist,” and teaches that homosexuals don’t need to repent of homosexuality when they come to Christ.

The other is Rachel Gilson. Gilson is not only a highly sought-after Cru speaker and leader, but she is also a contributor for The Gospel Coalition. Gilson teaches that homosexuals who are married — and come to Christ after they are married — can stay married because “God hates divorce.”

But Cru isn’t just pushing homosexuality, they’re also pushing social justice — of the most progressive kind. A while back, Cru invited a social justice speaker, Latasha Morrison, to a Cru conference. Morrison preached an entire sermon that indicts an entire ethnic group — white people — of racial sin based solely on the virtue of their skin color. She then, at the end of her sermon, has the entire audience, which is predominantly white, stand up and repeat a lamentation of guilt. She asks them to acknowledge their sin of “complicity” in systemic racism and their lack of “doing justice.”

This is exactly the kind of progressivism that billionaire elitists like to fund. So I thought, is George Soros funding Cru?

Well, it turns out he is.

According to George Soros’ Soros Fund Charitable Foundation 990 filing for 2012, Soros gave $2,700.00 to Campus Crusade. For brevity’s sake, I am only cutting and pasting the relevant snippets of the 39-page document below. If you want to review the entire filing, you can see it here.

Likewise, in 2013, Campus Crusade received $3,600 from Soros. While in the grand scheme, the amounts may not seem overly significant, it points to a larger problem. If George Soros finds them worthy enough to donate money to, you can rest assured there are plenty of other leftist political activists who do as well.

Cru touts itself as a ministry where each individual team members have to raise their own funds for their salaries. One of the stipulations is that funds are made out to Cru, not the team member, and the team member’s name can’t even be on the check — not even on the comment line.

It would be interesting to know exactly which team member or for what purpose George Soros has in funding a right-wing religious organization when the man is known for progressivism. Could it be because he wants to effect change and turn Christians toward the left? He has successfully done so in the SBC, why not in Cru, too?
