The very first command God gave to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden was to be fruitful and multiply. It was an important command because God chose marriage and family as the means to extend His kingdom and display His glory to creation.

One of the sweeping movements in Evangelicalism is the “gay celibate Christian” movement which seeks to redefine what it means to have a family and procreate and reduce it to a mere afterthought. In 2018, The Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) held a conference on marriage and family whereby a gay Anglican priest was platformed for exactly this purpose. The nuclear family is now being labeled idolatry where the inclusive church family is being touted as God’s primary means for procreation and raising children.

Since then, the ERLC and The Gospel Coalition (TGC) have heavily promoted Allberry and other gay and gay-affirming LGBTQ “Christian” activists to push this idea. The purpose behind the movement is to garner support from conservative churches to begin including celibate homosexuals into their congregations and for churches to back single-parent adoptions — skirting God’s design for marriage and the family.

The movement is quickly becoming mainstream thought in Evangelicalism but is largely promoted by the “gay Christian” community as its epicenter. Jonathan Merritt is a homosexual activist and son of former Southern Baptist Convention president, James Merritt.

Jonathan Merritt is an outspoken critic of conservative, heteronormativity and biblical Christian thought — though he touts himself a Christian. Merritt, who is close friends with Beth Moore and other Southern Baptists, recently doubled down on Twitter that God’s design for marriage and family is idolatry.

Woe to those who call evil good
    and good evil,
who put darkness for light
    and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
    and sweet for bitter!

Isaiah 5:20

God is clear about those who continue to promote this unbiblical sexual revolution in the Christian Church.
