TGC Author Who Wrote About Jesus “Penetrating” the Church Publishes Book on Conservatives and Democrats Uniting

You may remember last year, there was an uproar on social media involving an article published at The Gospel Coalition that described Jesus’s relationship with the Church in a graphically detailed comparison to how a man embraces and has intercourse with his wife. Not to rehash too much, but it was extremely graphic.

“Christ gives himself to his beloved with extravagant generosity,” Joshua Butler, the author of Beautiful Union wrote after describing a sexual intercourse scene between a man and a woman, “showering his love upon us and imparting his very presence within us. Christ penetrates his church with the generative seed of his Word and the life-giving presence of his Spirit, which takes root within her and grows to bring new life into the world.” Butler called this a “picture of the gospel.”

After the article was published, The Gospel Coalition was pummelled by both conservatives and progressives—when progressives find something offensive, you know it’s awful. Of course, there was nothing in his graphic depiction of Christ’s union with the Church that could be derived from Scripture. It was blasphemous, to say the least.

Now this same author is publishing a new book lecturing us on how Jesus is now bridging the divide between conservatives and liberals. The book, The Party Crasher, is described on Amazon as an “insightful, nonpartisan roadmap toward faithful political engagement and ultimate allegiance to Jesus, pastor Joshua Ryan Butler diagnoses the roots of political conflict tearing apart the church and prescribes a practical and prophetic way forward.

The book promises to teach us “how to develop a Christian posture for political life and promote unity in the church,” “when to be bold,” “how to identify and repent from our political idols,” and “how the way we worship can help us avoid division.”

Here’s the question though: what if one of these parties represents everything that Christ himself is against? What if Jesus doesn’t want to build bridges with God-haters? Seems like a fair question.

With the exception of some of the MAGA-cult-like religious leaders like Robert Jeffress—who’ve turned the former president into an idol—the vast majority of mainstream conservative Evangelicals do not recognize the Republican party as an “all in” thing. However, this does not equate to making room for the Democrat party. The Republican party is far from being the “party of God”—but the Democrat party has arguably moved further left than Satan himself. There is absolutely not one thing in the Democrat party platform that can be justified biblically—not one. They are definitely not two equals or flip sides of the same coin.

Let’s look at the difference between the two party platforms: Many, (not all), conservatives want to stop, or at least severely limit access to abortion. Democrats want to kill as many children as possible, for any reason, at any stage of development. Conservatives believe in a good work ethic and holding people accountable while Democrats want to steal from those with good work ethic to give the sluggard free handouts.

Conservatives want to close the border to illegal immigration while Democrats want to open it up and hand these children over to drag queens. Conservatives want to preserve religious freedom and freedom of speech while Democrats want to force us to accept “drag queen” as a valid gender identity. Conservatives want people to be able to defend themselves and their homes against hostile attacks while Democrats want to force you to use your intruder’s preferred pronouns.

Conservatives want the freedom to raise their children how the best see fit, while Democrats, on the other hand, mostly kill their own children at abortion mills and want to take yours from you and indoctrinate them in their ideologically leftist prison camps called public schools.

These are just a few of the differences between politically conservatives and progressives. The repeated mantra from these TGC types every year during election season is that Democrats and Republicans need to unite around Christ. But the reality is that anyone who holds these progressive views, or is comfortable voting for someone who does, has demonstrated that they are not aligned in any way with a biblical worldview. Under no circumstances can those who hold a progressive worldview be united with those who hold a biblical worldview—they must be purged from our ranks (1 Corinthians 5:13).
