Absurd: Pets and Animals Partake in Communion With Members of Major NYC Church

A major NYC Episcopal church, Cathedral of St. John the Divine, held its annual “Blessing of the Animals” for the first time since COVID-19 this weekend. In this ridiculous stunt, the members bring in their pets to partake in communion with them. Like, I don’t even really know what to say or write about this except that this is just so stupid and absurd that it defies anything even remotely Christian.

According to their Facebook page,

We can hardly wait: St. Francis Day is this Sunday! This annual service, honoring St. Francis and all the creatures of the Earth, is an opportunity for all to gather and recommit ourselves to protecting our shared planet. Four-legged, feathered, and scaly friends are welcome to take part as well! The Cathedral Choir will be joined by Artist in Residence Paul Winter and the Paul Winter Consort, the Forces of Nature Dance Theatre, and visiting singers from far and wide. Following the service, stay through the afternoon for pet blessings and family-friendly activities. (In case of inclement weather on Sunday, the afternoon activities will move inside into Synod House.)
