Former LifeWay CEO and NAMB Associate Opens New Bookstore Peddling Same Heresy That LifeWay Was Criticized For Years Ago

You may remember that several years ago, LifeWay Bookstores, the publishing arm of the Southern Baptist Convention under the leadership of its former president and CEO, Thom Rainer, was criticized for peddling heresy to Southern Baptists ranging from “gay Christianity” authors like Matthew Vines to anti-Trinitarian heretics like T.D. Jakes to “Heaven Tourism” trash.

After the fledgling (at the time) blog, Pulpit & Pen broke the story that Alex Malarkey, the kid in the popular Heaven tourism book, The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven, had recanted his story and had attempted to reach out to Rainer and LifeWay on multiple attempts with no response, LifeWay became the subject of intense scrutiny for their part in peddling these heretical materials by false teachers to Southern Baptists.

Since then, LifeWay has shuttered all of its brick-and-mortar stores but still sells online. Thankfully, the vast majority of the extreme heresy from anti-Trinitarians, “gay Christians,” and Heaven tourism has been removed from the store’s collection. However, LifeWay continues to peddle softer heresies in the form of social justice works, feminism and lady-preachers, and prosperity gospel trash.

But Thom Rainer is gone—in 2018, Rainer retired receiving a sizeable separation package and a car. He was later sued by LifeWay for allegedly not honoring an exclusive deal with them to sell their books. Rainer now partners with NAMB and hosts the Revitalize and Replant podcast with NAMB CEO, Kevin Ezell.

Fast forward 4 years, Rainer is now opening a new bookstore where he’s peddling much of the same heretical trash he was criticized for peddling during his tenure at LifeWay. A new bookstore, called the Church Answers Bookstore, is operated by Thom Rainer’s “Church Answers” ministry. According to a news release, the purpose of this store is to provide services to local churches with the online store but hinted at “other possibilities” in the future.

But is what Thom is selling beneficial to local churches or is he, once again, just peddling heretical trash to his customers for cash? Here, he is selling books once again by anti-Trinitarian heretic, T.D. Jakes:

Here is some trash by Jonathan Merritt, the openly gay son of former Southern Baptist president, James Merritt:

Here, he is selling prosperity gospel trash by Joel Osteen’s former associate pastor, John Gray:

Here is a sample of the trash he’s selling by Word of Faith arch-heretic and lady-preacher, Joyce Meyer:

Here’s some trash by Sid Roth, the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) hyper-charismatic con artist:

And of course, it’s filled with trash by Beth Moore, trash by prosperity heretic, Priscilla Shirer, her father, anti-Trinitarian and Pelagian, Tony Evans, gay-affirming preacher, Max Lucado, trash by hyper-woke racist who had a stadium full of white kids stand up and repeat a prayer of repentance for being white, LaTasha Morrison, and much more.

It doesn’t look like this bookstore exists to serve the local church, it looks like it exists to serve the Rainer family. In fact, you can pretty much anything you want by any heretic you want with no warning or explanation, just pay the Rainers your money and you can have your heresy.
