Presbyterian PCA Pastor Says Your Marriage Should Be As Committed as Some Homosexual Marriages

A prominent Presbyterian (PCA) pastor heavily involved in the Revoice movement said during a podcast recently that he believes that some homosexual marriages are “deeply committed” and that heterosexual marriages should be like them.

Scott Sauls, the Senior Pastor of Christ Presbyterian Church in Nashville, TN asked his listeners, “Is your heterosexual marriage as committed as some gay marriages?” Acknowledging, at least, that these marriages are “out of step with Scripture,” he continues to implore his listeners to use them as a model for their own marriage.

“Some gay marriages are deeply committed, as out of step with scripture as they are. Your marriage commitment needs to be at least on the same level…to have some sort of credibility,” Sauls stated.

But the problem with this reasoning isn’t that what he’s saying isn’t technically true, that some marriages are uncommitted. The problem is even lending credence, at all, to the notion that a homosexual “marriage” is actually a marriage at all. Simply that two people are committed to a sinful lifestyle with each other is not grounds for modeling a marriage commitment. In other words, we shouldn’t look to a “homosexual marriage” to compare our level of commitment in our own marriages—we should look to what God expects of us as revealed in Scripture.

There is no excuse for being uncommitted to each other in a real marriage, especially for a believing marriage. But Sauls is comparing apples and oranges here. These are two completely different types of commitment—one is a commitment to your God-given spouse with a covenant before God, the other is a commitment to rebel against God and gratify the flesh in an ungodly union.

But what else do you expect from a movement as compromised as these people are? Here’s the clip.
