I want to preface this article with the disclaimer that I am not really a fan of Ed Young Jr. and this should not be construed as a blanket endorsement of him or his theology. Young is a mostly pragmatic preacher who once invited a Mormon, Glenn Beck to preach to his church among other things.
Young also spent 24 hours on a roof in bed with his wife nearly a decade ago to promote his book on sex and marriage calling his stunt a “sexperiment.” And overall, Young Jr. really does not have a good grasp on the Scriptures and often handles them poorly when preaching.
But every broken clock is right twice a day—or once depending on the kind. And Young Jr. is right about this: he calls out the “woke” movement and warns his congregation about it.
During his sermon, he told the congregation that the movement was a cult that redefines terms to support their agenda. Young Jr. defined “wokeism” as “an authoritarian worldview that seeks to deconstruct the foundations of our Christian faith by overwhelming, overpowering, and overthrowing those who do not adhere to its ideology.”
