John MacArthur has been at the forefront of fighting government restrictions against churches and religious groups in the midst of the COVID-19 situation. Facing numerous fines, charges, and lawsuits from the State of California and Los Angeles city and county governments, MacArthur and Grace Church have finally reached a settlement with these governments that will award the church nearly one million dollars to pay attorney’s fees and other costs associated with the illegal suppression of religious freedom. In another interesting turn of events, during his sermon on August 29, John MacArthur revealed that he and his wife contracted COVID-19 last December. Watch:
In December, his church revealed that he was unable to preach due to an “illness” during which Steven Lawson filled in for him. While we do not know why he would not have revealed this information publicly, he certainly is under no obligation to publicly announce his health and we’re sure that he followed the proper guidelines and steps to ensure the safety of himself, his family, and his congregation once he contracted.
However, now that he has made this information public, and we know that he contracted the disease, and yet, he still desires to fight for the freedoms of those to make informed decisions about health and religious practice without coercion from the government, at least nobody can accuse him of not knowing what it’s like to have COVID-19. John MacArthur is 82-years-old and statistically at a very high risk of complications.
