False Teacher of the Day #27: Steven Furtick

by | Jun 25, 2021 | False Teacher of the Day, heresy, Opinion, The Church, Video | 0 comments

Steven Furtick is more than just a false teacher. He is a demonic liar, a deceiver, and if anything, more like Satan than any angel of light he masquerades as. He preaches a false prosperity gospel and bilks his congregation for money. Today, Furtick makes number 27 on our False Teacher of the Day series.

Besides being a proponent of the false Prosperity Gospel, Steven Furtick is a blasphemer and an idolater. He is a narcissist who reads himself into the text of Scripture and at times, has made himself out to be like God. He has made absurd claims about the Scriptures and God himself, such as claiming that God reflects his image (rather than man reflecting God’s image).

He has also claimed that without man, God is just an abstract concept. In a sermon, he preached, “it’s not how God sees me, but how I think God sees me that determines where I end up.”

Of course, this is absurd and biblically asinine — in fact, make that ten. He goes on to assert that God created us in His image because of some need he had to be known by us. “God needed someone to show the world what he looked like or else he would have just been a concept. God would have been an abstract theory.”

Let that sink in for a moment. What he says essentially makes man the creator of God. Blasphemy!

Now, it’s also abundantly clear that Steven Furtick think’s he’s Jesus as he applies the Scriptures that refer to Jesus to himself, taking his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God (2 Thessalonians 2:4). In Genesis 3:15, we see what’s called the protevangelium — that is, God’s first mention of the gospel and promise of a Messiah who he says will crush the head of Satan as Satan bruises his heel.

I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.

Steven Furtick, like he normally does, blasphemes God and reads himself into that Scripture passage and elevates himself to the status of Messiah by claiming that he’s the one that crushed Satan’s head as Satan “bit” him and “bruised” his heel.

“I had a first time thing. I was stomping the devil’s head on the stage last week (laughs). It was at
the 9:30. I was icing my heal between the 9:30 and the 11:30. I stomped him too hard and he bit me,
or something – my heel is bruised.

“All week somebody said “welcome to your 40’s – you’re gonna start getting all kinds of stupid
injuries”. What a wonderful way to get injured huh? Stomping the devil’s head for the glory of god!

“Come on – I’ve got hurt a lot stupider ways than that. It’s hilarious; it’s hilarious to me – it was funny to me. I used to get hurt punching balls and stuff, out of anger. I’d rather get hurt anointed.”

“Anyway, the bible said he will bruise your heel but you will crush his head. That’s a scripture verse.”

And just recently, he openly embraced the heresy of his close associate, T.D. Jakes — modalism, which is a denial of the orthodox doctrine of the Trinity.

During a recent sermon Furtick preaches, Furtick, twisting John 16:7, says that Jesus “is not leaving you, but changing forms.” He then goes on to say “up until now I have walked with you, But when I send my spirit, I will be in you.”

This is exactly not what this passage teaches. Instead, Furtick twists it to promote a doctrine that was condemned by the Church as early as the third century by Tertullian and later systematized by the Church through creeds such as Athanasian and Nicene.

Who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. –2 Thessalonians 2:4
