There has been a major shift in the LGBTQ movement and quite a number of them in recent years have turned toward supporting Republican politicians —particularly, Donald Trump. While Democrats still hold a near-monopoly on sexual aberrancy, Trump himself has garnered the support of more homosexuals than any other Republican president in modern history.
Other so-called “conservative” movements, including Turning Point USA, have embraced homosexuality and have allowed it to fester within Republican circles. Here, Charlie Kirk defends homosexuals in conservative circles on the basis of being open-minded, diverse, and winning elections—essentially the same as Democrats.
It’s fascinating to see, yet quite disturbing, and we true conservatives must not become complacent.
First, if homosexuals find themselves more in agreement on other issues with Republicans than they do Democrats, that’s fine. We’re glad to have the votes. It is certainly possible for LGBTQ people to still believe in protecting the Constitution, oppose abortion, and free speech. But we must be clear—homosexuality is not a conservative value and it does not help the conservative movement.
True conservatism is rooted in a theistic worldview grounded in God’s revelation to mankind. And although that worldview is embedded in us through God’s general revelation, the heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork (Psalm 19:1), it is refined and embraced through the Scriptures. The Scriptures declare that “although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.” (Romans 1:21)
This is what we see with homosexuals who call themselves “conservatives,” people who know and understand who God is but refuse to submit to Him or to honor Him, especially with their bodies. It is the highest form of rebellion against God.
Homosexuality is not compatible with conservatism and their worldview is not conservative. It is aberrant behavior, grotesque to the mind that is set on the Spirit. It is not a behavior that true conservatives can embrace as normal. It is of the flesh; the mind that is set on the flesh cannot please God (Romans 8:8).
So no matter what they want to call it, be it “gay conservatism” or whatever else, it is not conservatism and it is not for the purpose of conserving a Christian worldview. It is motivated solely by self-preservation.
