“When God wants to judge a nation, He gives them wicked rulers…” —John Calvin, paraphrased.

It is disappointing, to say the least, to see that our nation has fallen so far that we are comfortable electing baby-murderers, child-mutilators, and people who would rather see Christians dead to the nation’s highest offices.

We all saw it coming. And we’ve seen it coming for a while.

The easy thing for us to do is to point to Trump and blame him for this “blue wave.” He started a highly unpopular war after promising that he wouldn’t. Gas and diesel prices are outrageous. People can’t afford to buy groceries. And everyone is stuck in their home, unable to move, because nobody wants to pay a 7-8 percent interest rate on a new mortgage.

Despite a lower unemployment rate and a stock market that has done well, these are the tangible things that voters feel. When it affects our wallets, it affects our vote.

The bottom line is that Trump ran on “America First,” and then seemed to abandon that promise once he was in office.

And now, he’s paying the price for it.

No. Now WE’RE paying the price for it.

But Trump isn’t the reason this happened. Trump isn’t the cause of this nation’s fall. Trump is nothing more than a pawn in the larger game of “God’s judgment on this nation.” God alone sets up kings and removes them (Daniel 2:21), and no governing authority exists without God’s approval (Romans 12:1).

America is a nation far from God.

I do not deny that America was once a Christian nation, in a sense. However, we must define what that means. By “Christian nation,” I do not mean that America is somehow a nation chosen by God, in covenant with Him, as was the nation of Israel during Old Testament times, for the purpose of carrying out God’s plan of redemption in the world.

It is not and never has been.

I also do not mean that at one time, America was made up of mostly born-again true believers in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. I find that far-fetched and, quite frankly, preposterous.

By “Christian nation,” I mean that America was originally founded on biblical principles of morality, ingrained in the Constitution, and that the vast majority of Americans respected and believed these values.

Those days are over—and those days will likely never return.

The fact that those who profess Christ and claim to hold to conservative biblical principles are largely silent on the social evils taking over this nation when it comes to sexual immorality. We have so-called “conservative” influencers celebrating sodomy, and celebrating sodomites “marrying” and trafficking children through rented wombs.

Yet these same people will protest election fraud and rally against socialism, wealth redistribution, taxes, and foreign wars—and rightly so. But it speaks volumes of their motivations.

Don’t get me wrong, it is good to stand against these evils. But the fact that they only speak out against these things, but not when children are being trafficked into the homes of known sexual perverts with the blessing of the state, says to me that their activism is selfishly motivated.

They only protest things that personally affect them and their own way of life without regard to what God actually thinks about it.

And the church is largely neutered and silent. Her influence is waning completely out of existence. The cries of Christians in the wilderness can no longer be heard as multi-million dollar megachurch industries gather to put on circus performances and showcase their own trophy performers. And they do so while their “sermons” are completely devoid of any meaningful gospel preaching.

The few voices that remain can, in some ways, be compared to the prophet Ezekiel, who lay on his side for 390 days eating barley cakes baked on the flames of dung. The words and warnings continue to go out, but the world keeps getting darker.

The sun is going down on this nation.

America, which used to be a bright light in this dark world, holding to principles of morality that glorified God, goodness, and truth, has now become nothing more than a catalyst for evil and the freedoms we once enjoyed have been given away as part of God’s judgment on a nation that has turned its back on God.

“For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.” —Romans 1:21

In many ways, America once knew God—or better said, God knew America. But God’s hand of restraint against evil has been slowly removed, and we have now devolved into a Romans 1 nation. Sexual immorality, all manner of evil, a young generation that has no respect for its elders, and an indoctrination system that we call “public schools” that perpetuates this evil.

America does not deserve the blessings God has given her in the past. We have no right to the freedoms we’ve held on to for so long.

This nation deserves absolutely nothing except the wrath of God.

The Church in America has become a mockery of God’s true Church and a perpetrator of ideologies that are antithetical to the knowledge of God. And the Church is filled with leaders who are afraid to stand against it.

It is not that I want these things to happen to our once great nation—I do not. But we cannot be honest with ourselves unless we acknowledge that these things are happening and that we do deserve them.

We have no promise or right to God’s mercy on this nation. As Christians, we have our inheritance in Christ. It is He alone that we long for, and when He returns, all things will be made right. The suffering will end for those who are truly in Him. But in the meantime, when—not if, but when—this nation falls, we have nobody to blame but ourselves.

God is still on His throne.
