Matt Chandler Steps Down Temporarily Due to “Inappropriate Text Messages” With Another Woman

by | Aug 28, 2022 | News | 0 comments

If you’re familiar with our blog at all, you know that we’ve been overtly critical of Village Church and Acts 29 pastor, Matt Chandler. Chandler’s theological bent is grounded far less and the authority of Scripture and far more in the whims of culture.

We have criticized Chandler for things like saying that Black people who aren’t woke are just trying to win the “approval” of White men, pushing progressive “woke” politics, his church writing worship songs about microaggressions, comparing Black Lives Matter leaders to biblical prophets, denouncing America as racist and demonic, declaring that parts of Critical Race Theory are good (even though it’s demonic), having disdain for White people, speaking at various “woke church” social justice conferences, or sharing the stage with lesbians, racists, and charismatics all in the name of social justice.

But one thing we’ve never been critical of him about is his fidelity and faithfulness to his wife. Which is why his announcement today was so shocking. Today, Chandler announced to his church that his elders decided—and that he agreed with them—that he would be stepping down as pastor, preacher, and teacher of Village Church, at least for now, after it was revealed that he’d had inappropriate and unhealthy text messages with another woman.

In tears, Chandler acknowledged that even though he didn’t believe his texts were inappropriate at the time, he now understands that after being confronted by his elders, that his inability to see the inappropriateness of the relationship he had developed with this other woman via text revealed some “unhealth” in him.
