Michael Brown is the world’s premier apologist for the ancient heresy of Montanism. Montanism is the heresy that teaches that certain spiritual gifts, such as prophecy, continue today and that it is possible to receive direct, divine revelation from God apart from Scripture. The heresy has been re-packaged in modern times into what is known as the charismatic movement. Charismatics and Pentecostals hold to the unbiblical position that the apostolic sign gifts, such as tongues, prophecy, and the gift of healing are still for the Church today.
Some of the worst offenders of this heresy today are Bill Johnson of Bethel Church and Benny Hinn — two Michael Brown’s friends and colleagues. While Brown brands himself as a “moderate” who doesn’t hold to the “extreme” positions of some of these charismatic offenders, he continues to defend them while condemning those who urge against it.
Yet, of all of the extreme idolaters and blasphemers, Todd White is undeniably one of the worst. Todd White is known for his parlor tricks such as leg-lengthening and other faux healings and miracles. White is along the lines of Todd Bentley when it comes to fake signs and wonders. But worst of all is the false gospel that comes out of the movement — the prosperity gospel — of which White relentlessly proclaims.
Yet, thanks to Michael Brown and those who continue to defend and accept him among the ranks of Reformed Christianity and refuse to denounce him as a dangerous false teacher the way Phil Johnson and Todd Friel did (at a minimum), Michael Brown is able to shovel leaven into orthodox Christianity from even worse false teachers like Todd White at an alarming rate. Brown is now normalizing Todd White and labeling him as one who “has a wonderful heart for the Lord,” as seen in the photo below.

Thankfully, as you can see in the comments, that at least some of Brown’s followers are discerning enough to draw the line here. But many are not. Michael Brown — who has been legitimized by unnamed Reformed apologists — is now legitimizing this pumped up idolater and blasphemer of God. As Charles Spurgeon famously said, “Discernment is not knowing the difference between right and wrong. It is knowing the difference between right and almost right.”
The problem with men like this is that they want to speak orthodox language. They want to give a facade of orthodoxy, giving lip-service to the gospel and to the Bible, but they twist it just enough to make it difficult to detect. They will say they love Jesus and that Jesus is the only way — but their Jesus is a different Jesus. Their Jesus is a prosperity gospel Jesus who performs fake miracles to attract people. This is exactly what Todd White does. He attracts people to his religion with promises of prosperity, cheap parlor tricks, and sensationalistic pep talks, and calls it “the gospel.”
It is another gospel. It is from Satan. It is who Michael Brown has chosen to align himself with.
For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
