Earlier this week, Reformation Charlotte reported that Danny Akin, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary tweeted that James Cone, the infamous racist out of Union Seminary who popularized Liberation Theology as it applies to blacks in America. After Akin — rightfully — criticized Cone, calling him a heretic and most likely not in Heaven, barely 24 hours later, he backtracked and said he’d greet him as a “brother in Christ” if he saw him in Heaven.

There can be little doubt that Akin backtracked due to the backlash he received from a camp he’s been staunchly defending and supporting over the last few years — the “woke church.” Two of his professors at Southeastern — Curtis Woods and Walter Strickland — are avid promoters of Cone’s Black Liberation Theology and even helped to install aspects of the Marxist-rooted theology into Southern Baptist dogma with the passing of Resolution 9 in 2019.

However, Akin’s back-pedaling on Cone’s condemnation wasn’t enough as many of the movement’s key agitators are now eating Akin alive. A report about race-baiting and racialism in Southern Baptist life wouldn’t be complete without a quote from the usual, Kyle Howard who, of course, says that Cone’s false gospel is just fine.

Howard has always not only been an enemy of the gospel but has spent his entire adult career inciting racial tensions in the Church. How Howard can sleep at night is beyond any rational mind’s ability to grasp, but the depravity that pours from Howard’s fingers onto his keyboard daily is troublesome.

However, in an interesting turn of events, two other top names in the “woke church” movement have turned against Danny Akin now. While discerning Christians have been warning men like Akin to separate from these spiritually violent demagogues, Akin has refused to listen, tried to win their favor by playing their game, and is now reaping his losses. You see, Critical Race Theorists aren’t after truth and reconciliation — they’re after complete destruction and chaos.

Jemar Tisby, founder and CEO of The Witness — a Black Liberation Theology publication — first condemned Akin for rightfully rejecting Cone’s theology as “heresy” and accused Akin of just being a racist and not liking him because he’s black.

But, to make it worse, one of Jemar Tisby’s primary contributors, Ally Henny, a pro-abortion author at The Witness, basically told Danny Akin to shut his white mouth.

It’s like, duhhh Danny, we told you this was going to happen. You’re never going to please these people. The last few times we’ve attempted to reach Akin for comment, he’s not responded. Hopefully, he will wake up and see that we’re not his enemy — the “woke church” is.
