Union Theological Seminary has a storied history that dates back to its Presbyterian founding in 1836. Despite its origins, the seminary has always been a center for liberalism, never truly grounding itself in the Scriptures or the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Over the decades, Union has further devolved, abandoning any pretense of Christian orthodoxy in favor of progressive cultural trends.

According to a press release on its website, Union Theological Seminary recently appointed Dr. Simran Jeet Singh, a Sikh, as an Assistant Professor in Interreligious Histories. This decision highlights Union’s ongoing departure from Christianity and rebellion against God.

This latest move should come as no surprise to those who have observed Union Seminary’s downward spiral into apostasy. Union became infamous as the home of James Cone, the arch-heretic who propagated the twisted doctrines of Black Liberation Theology. Cone’s teachings distorted the Gospel into a tool for social and political agitation, setting the stage for Union’s subsequent embrace of every heresy imaginable.

Today, Union Seminary stands as a testament to theological and moral decay. It has not only accepted but actively promotes ideologies and practices that are utterly antithetical to the teachings of Christ. From its endorsement of homosexuality and so-called “plant worship” to its support for abortion, radical feminism, and the social justice movement, Union Seminary has become a hub for those who seek to pervert the Gospel into a mere instrument for advancing secular, leftist agendas.

The hiring of Dr. Singh, a practitioner of a religion that rejects the divinity of Christ, is the latest and perhaps most egregious affront to the Christian faith. Union Seminary’s stated motives for this appointment—promoting interreligious understanding and diversity—are nothing more than hollow platitudes masking a deeper rejection of the supremacy of Christ. The Scriptures are clear: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). By elevating a non-Christian to a position of influence over future religious leaders, Union Seminary blatantly defies this foundational truth.

God’s Word warns us against such departures from the faith. The Apostle Paul admonished the early church to guard against those who would preach a different gospel, saying, “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed” (Galatians 1:8). Union Seminary, in its embrace of interfaithism and social justice, has become a purveyor of a false gospel that leads souls astray.

It would be better for Union Seminary to remove the name of Christ from their programs altogether than to continue using it as a veneer for their apostate teachings. Our Lord Jesus Christ declared, “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matthew 18:6). On the day of judgment, it will go easier for Union Seminary if they do not falsely claim to represent Christ while leading people away from Him.
