Every year, the Southern Baptist Convention holds an annual meeting where denominational business is conducted, resolutions are voted on, and the new convention leaders are chosen to lead for the next years. And every year, it seems, that dirty tricks are pulled to keep the establishment leadership in place. This year, the establishment candidate is Clint Pressley, pastor of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC.

It has now been announced that Dr. Jared Moore, pastor of Homesteads Baptist Church in Crossville, TN and the author of the excellent and much-needed book, The Lust of the Flesh, is joining the race as the non-establishment candidate. As a matter of disclaimer, this author was previously a member of Pressley’s church.

This will be an interesting race. Knowing both of these candidates rather well, I can unequivocally say that Dr. Moore is not a man who will compromise for the sake of superficial or unbiblical unity, nor is he a self-serving leader who will will tell you that he believes on thing and yet do another in order to protect His own reputation among men. Moore is not a man who will seek to climb to the top of the denominational ladder for self-serving purposes. Jared Moore genuinely desires to see positive, biblical change come to the denomination.

Some of the issues facing the denomination right now are the influx of feminism, women pastors, Critical Race Theory, and certain elements of queer theory that are invading churches through movements like Living Out, Revoice, and The Gospel Coalition. Moore takes a strong and active stance against these heresies and has no problem dealing with them in an uncompromising, biblical way. Having said that, Dr. Moore will have an uphill battle fighting the establishment.

Last November, I had the pleasure of interviewing Moore on the topic of his book. You can read my review at this link, and listen to the interview below:
