After watching parts of the debate last night between Pennsylvania candidates John Fetterman and Mehmet Oz, it has become abundantly clear that the Democrat party’s commitment to abortion, LGBTQ, and all of the other items on the progressive agenda far outweigh the desire to be seen as reasonable or live in a functioning society. For the Democrat party, it’s all or nothing. Fetterman, who had a stroke and can hardly put together a coherent statement, had an extremely difficult time making any sense at all during his debate with Oz. But, for Democrats, it’s a ‘Hail Mary” with Fetterman.

But it’s not just with Fetterman. The Democrats all across the nation are committed to their progressive and godless ideals and the candidates they put up for office are nothing more than surrogates for their radicalized constituency. While there is much division among the Republican party, there is clear unity among Democrats to put into policy the stated goals of their platform.

So is it possible for a Christian to vote for a Democrat and remain faithful to God? Let’s examine this. First, the Scriptures do not tell us what party we should vote for. To be clear, all political parties are inventions of man whether Democrat or Republican. So the question shouldn’t be about which party to support or vote for, but rather, how a Christian should think about political issues and steward their vote accordingly.

First, we examine the issues and the policies surrounding the political climate and see which ones are compatible with our biblical values and which ones are not. Let’s examine a few of the policies of the Democrat platform according to the party’s website:

We believe unequivocally, like the majority of Americans, that every woman should be able to access high-quality reproductive health care services, including safe and legal abortion. We will repeal the Title X domestic gag rule and restore federal funding for Planned Parenthood

Democrats oppose and will fight to overturn federal and state laws that create barriers to reproductive health and rights. We will repeal the Hyde Amendment, and protect and codify the right to reproductive freedom.

We recognize that quality, affordable comprehensive health care; medically accurate, LGBTQ+ inclusive, age-appropriate sex education; and the full range of family planning services are all essential to ensuring that people can decide if, when, and how to start a family.

We will also take action to guarantee that LGBTQ+ people and those living with HIV/AIDS have full access to needed health care and resources, including by requiring that federal health plans provide coverage for HIV/AIDS testing and treatment and HIV prevention medications like PrEP and PEP, gender confirmation surgery, and hormone therapy.

And just look at the Democrat party’s commitment to codifying a socialist/communist economy into national policy. There can be no doubt that the party has taken a radical approach to opposing biblical values and punishing anyone who doesn’t consent to their agenda. It is clear that there will be no religious exemption from the political enforcement of the celebration of godlessness in America if the Democrats get their way.

To be clear, your political positions, activism, or support are not the cause of your salvation. However, if you claim to be a Christian, transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit and bought by the blood of Jesus Christ, the Scriptures say that you will be given a new heart (Ezekiel 36:26) and you are being sanctified unto good works (Ephesians 2:10).

What does this mean practically? This means you cannot be a Christian while supporting the slaughter of innocent children, LGBTQ rights and propaganda pushed on our children in schools, theft (redistribution of wealth), lawlessness (i.e. open borders), a complete and total lack of individual responsibility (i.e. nanny state welfare system, single-payer insurance, redistribution of wealth, etc.), or the endless sweeping away of our right to worship God freely.

So, if you voted for a Democrat, you should examine your beliefs and ask yourself how you can square your beliefs with your Christian faith. Which policy or policies was it that made you believe you could support the Democrat party while not compromising your faith? Was your vote out of selfishness or greed? If you’re a pastor and a significant portion of your church is voting for Democrats, are you teaching your congregation how to think biblically about political issues? Probably not. If a Christian is able to separate their political ideology from their faith, then one is not being disciples properly—and that’s a problem.

So to answer the question in the headline, “is voting Democrat compatible with Christianity,” the issue isn’t with the act of voting itself, but with the unbiblical and irrational thinking that leads someone to believe that, as a professing Christian, one can poorly steward their vote this way. It is the thinking that needs to be dealt with because unbiblical reasoning on these issues is likely a sign that one either needs to be discipled, or hasn’t actually been transformed by the renewal of your mind (Romans 12:2).
