A Southern Baptist pastor is behind bars after allegedly trying to kill two Arenac County sheriff deputies in Ferndale just outside of Detroit, MI.
According to our search, the pastor, David Jones, was the pastor of a Southern Baptist Church named Hilton Oaks Baptist Church in Ferndale.
A local news report stated that court documents show Jones had a long history of drinking and driving, and his latest arrest was in August in Oakland County. According to the report, Jones, who appeared to be intoxicated when sitting outside of a convenience store in his car, violently ran his car into the deputy’s car after the store owner called them to the scene.
Afterward, Jones took off down the highway and into a nearby parking lot crashing his vehicle into a building where the deputies were then able to apprehend him after a violent confrontation.

“If you turn your vehicle around and intentionally collide with a police vehicle, you are going to be charged with attempted murder on police,” Arena County Undersheriff Don McIntyre told WXYZ Detroit.
It is unclear why a man with a long rap sheet of DUI convictions would be pastoring a church. It’s possible the church was unaware but unlikely given his proclivity toward drinking.
