As I was doing my morning reading, I was pointed to this article at Religion News Service (RNS) praising and celebrating the abomination of drag performances in churches, particularly, in the pulpit. This abomination is a clear indication of the modern professing Church’s utter degeneration. I know they say that there is nothing new under the sun, but this sure seems like a new invention.

I can’t think of a time in history when the professing Church was so celebratory of sexual immorality. Perhaps, though, this is exactly what Paul was addressing in 1 Corinthians 5 when he addresses sexual immorality in the Church—“a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans.”

It is astounding that so many so-called churches look absolutely nothing like the sacred institutions they claim to be, yet they brandish the name of Christ. Their Christ is a false construct—a permissive, indulgent figure who winks at sin, sexual perversion, and blasphemy.

The path to this deplorable state did not materialize overnight. It was paved by weak-minded men who shirked their duty to lead with biblical conviction. Over the decades, these feckless leaders, much like the Evangelical leaders we have today, capitulated to the demands of the culture, allowing secular ideologies to infiltrate and corrupt the Church. This led to an ever-increasing acceptance of practices and beliefs that oppose the clear teachings of Scripture, namely, the abominable spectacle of women in pulpits—always a foot in the door to apostasy.

The Church’s willingness to tolerate false doctrines has only expedited its decline. In their futile quest to be deemed “inclusive” and “progressive,” these professing churches have welcomed all sorts of heresies and perversions of the gospel, from the prosperity gospel to the social gospel. And they have embraced the lie that God’s truth can be molded to fit the cultural zeitgeist, rather than standing firm on the unchanging Word of God.

God’s perspective on such blatant apostasy is unmistakably severe. The Scriptures are replete with examples of His wrath against those who dare to defile His name. Look no further than the narrative of Nadab and Abihu in Leviticus 10:1-2—struck down by divine fire for offering unauthorized worship. Or the stern rebuke given to the church in Thyatira in Revelation 2:20 for tolerating the false prophetess Jezebel, who led believers into sexual immorality and idolatry. These are grim reminders that God is holy and just, and He will not tolerate the perversion of His worship or the corruption of His Church.

The professing Church today is in a state of egregious rebellion against God. It has traded the truth of the gospel for the lies of modern secularism. This tragic exchange has led to a gross perversion of worship, from the subtle emotionally charged charismaticism to the abhorrent drag sex scenes now being performed and celebrated within its walls.

God’s judgment on those who bear false witness and take His name in vain simply can’t be overstated. In Ezekiel 22:26-31, He condemns the priests who profane His holy things and fail to distinguish between the holy and the common. God’s wrath is always ultimately poured out upon those who claim to be His people but live in open rebellion against His commands and this should be a sobering reality for the professing Church today.

What’s that old saying?

Turn or burn!?

In light of these biblical truths, it is clear that the professing Church stands on the precipice of God’s righteous judgment. The falling away we witness is not merely a deviation from tradition—it is a wholesale abandonment of the faith once delivered to the saints. God’s patience has limits, and His righteous judgment will not be delayed forever. As He declares in Galatians 6:7, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”
