Yeah, I know, that sounds like a Babylon Bee headline. But I can assure you, it isn’t. Kanye West, who became a famous professing Christian after dropping his gospel album in 2019 has since been on a traveling preaching spree with various hucksters ranging from prosperity gospel charlatan, Joel Osteen to charismatic blasphemers like Cindy Jacobs and Lou Engle.
In 2019, concerning Kanye West’s continued affection for his own celebrity, I wrote:
There has been much hoopla in the last several weeks surrounding Kanye West and his supposed conversion to Christianity. Some of my closest friends and brothers in Christ are assuring us that he’s in good hands and calling on us to give him a chance to bear fruits. I’m all for that. I genuinely hope he is truly converted and I genuinely hope that the brothers who are watching over his soul right now don’t give up on him.
But there is a glaring problem right now that needs to be dealt with. I really don’t want to see Kanye slip away and be devoured by false teachers and a false gospel. I really don’t. But the problem is, Kanye West is still in the spotlight when he doesn’t need to be.
And in another article, I wrote:
The thing that nags at me, is seeing a person at this level of celebrity still immersed in their celebrity as a new convert. The New Testament frowns upon novices taking center stage at all, to say nothing of it being because of their life of sin.
I couldn’t name one of Kanye’s songs and couldn’t care less. To me, he’s just another man who needs Jesus. This country is pickled in the idolatry of celebrity and celebrity status is an intoxicant that rivals any drug.

Since I wrote this, West has gone through a divorce yet he’s still lifted up as a celebrity “Christian” hero by many. In addition to that, it appears that, sadly, my discernment at the time concerning the hoopla surrounding West’s supposed conversion turned out to be on point. I did not buy it.
Today, my discernment has been vindicated as West has demonstrated not fruits of the Spirit, but fruits of the flesh. In a recent post on Twitter, Kanye West announced that he’d be taking a 30-day break from watching porn films and committing adultery and fornication—because, you know, those are regular activities of followers of Christ. Below is the tweet:
