While Christians Applaud the UMC’s Ban on Homosexuality, Don’t Forget They Still Officially Support Abortion

The United Methodist Church (UMC) recently held a special General Conference to address a growing push for the official acceptance of sexually deviant behaviors in the denomination. To the dismay of liberal progressives — and quite the surprise to many conservatives — the biblical view of sexuality was not only reaffirmed, but stronger enforcement was put in place for those who deviate from the denomination’s rules.

While we can appreciate and even celebrate this surprising move toward a more conservative posture in the United Methodist Church, let’s not forget that the denomination is, in and of itself, apostate — and has been for a long time.

The UMC, while making this positive stride toward righteousness, does, however, still support abortion. According to the UMC’s official statement of beliefs, they recognize abortion to be a “right” which is held over and above the rights of the unborn child.

We recognize tragic conflicts of life with life that may justify abortion, and in such cases we support the legal option of abortion under proper medical procedures by certified medical providers. We support parental, guardian, or other responsible adult notification and consent before abortions can be performed on girls who have not yet reached the age of legal adulthood. We cannot affirm abortion as an acceptable means of birth control, and we unconditionally reject it as a means of gender selection or eugenics (see Resolution 3184).

As Christians, we believe that life begins at conception and that all human life is created in the Image of God. And to end a life, at any point — whether it be five minutes after conception or five months — is not only murder, but a direct assault on the Image of God.

Based on this horrific position on the murder of innocent children in the womb, it is enough to say that this denomination is — by all discernible standards — apostate. And anyone who is in this denomination, who, by very virtue of membership agrees to the beliefs with their denomination, shall also be deemed apostate and out of fellowship with the rest of the Christian Church.
