Two days ago, NY State passed a bill allowing the slaughter of innocent children in the womb all the way up until birth. New York Governor, Michael Cuomo cackled, calling the passage of the bill, “bittersweet.”

The Reproductive Health Act is a historic victory for New Yorkers and for our progressive values. In the face of a federal government intent on rolling back Roe v. Wade and women’s reproductive rights, I promised that we would enact this critical legislation within the first 30 days of the new session – and we got it done. I am directing that New York’s landmarks be lit in pink to celebrate this achievement and shine a bright light forward for the rest of the nation to follow.

Robert Gagnon, Professor of Theology at Houston Baptist University responded to it. See his comments below:

I am reminded of Jesus’ words according to Luke at the moment of his arrest: αὕτη ἐστὶν ὑμῶν ἡ ὥρα καὶ ἡ ἐξουσία τοῦ σκότους = “This is your hour and the power [or: dominion, rule, authority (exousia)] of darkness” (Luke 22:53). This is the face of the Democratic Party: Celebrating the passage of a law that removes abortion from New York’s criminal code (previously it was a felony to perform late-term abortions; this change protects the Kermit Gosnells of the world from being prosecuted, no matter how late-term the abortion); celebrating the passage of a law that permits women to have abortions “at any time,” including the third trimester, “when necessary to protect a patient’s life or health” (the “or health” is new in New York; previously it was just “life”). “Health” includes (according to Doe v. Bolton) “all factors — physical, emotional, psychological, familial, and the woman’s age — relevant to the well-being of the patient.” Even midwives and physician’s assistants can now perform some abortions. Cuomo now is working to get this new, more barbaric law enshrined in the state constitution.

Celebrating virtual carte blanche to kill developing and even developed human life in the womb “at any time” and for virtually any reason? Evil is growing ever more brazen, and not only as regards abortion but also as regards compulsory obeisance to the “transgender” and “gay” mantra that denies biology, natural law, and the Creator. And still some Evangelical “elites” tell us that we should be voting Democratic more often and that in doing so we will “save Evangelicalism.” Such is the degree of self-delusion and deception in our time.

Can We Get Over John Piper Already?

It seems that over the last several years, Evangelicalism has taken a sharp turn in leadership, leaving many empty chairs that were once filled with prominent voices. I think this turn started in 2017 when we lost R.C. Sproul. He was a voice the church looked to for...

How to Identify the Heresy of Statism in Your Church

Remember COVID? Remember the evangelical talking heads—Russell Moore, David French, Ed Stetzer—aggressively pushing us to “love our neighbors” by wearing dirty face masks? Doubled up, maybe. Telling us that we must “do the right thing” by risking our own lives,...

Consumerism and the Worship of Worship

Somewhere along the way, the church stopped asking how God wants to be worshiped and started asking what people will show up for. We have spent decades perfecting an experience God never commanded. Not because our doctrinal statements changed. They often haven’t. Not...
