Men like David Platt—who spend the majority of their time in ivory towers barking commands at the rest of the Church to “stop being racist” while urging them to give up their own “positions of power” to people of color—have a really hard time wrapping their heads around why the common person is fed up with the woke movement and want nothing to do with it. Growing increasingly frustrated as David Platt himself pushes cultural Marxism from his own pulpit, it doesn’t dawn on Platt that these people are simply fed up with the unbiblical nonsense.

Yet, at least we can say that David Platt is living up to his own advice as he has announced that he is stepping down from his role as lead pastor and handing the reins over to his associate pastor, Mike Kelsey in a vote held on Sunday, September 24, 2023. Here’s the clip.

Hey Church Family, I really look forward to the next time we’re together across all our locations as I have some exciting personal news regarding adoption in my family that I cannot wait to share with you.

But for now I have some exciting news for our Church Family that I want to share with you. You can read more details in the letter I’ve written to you but the bottom line is I am thrilled to let you know about a Church Family meeting on Sunday night September 24th where we will have the opportunity to affirm Mike Kelsey as a lead pastor in our Church.

I am so excited about this for so many reasons, most of all because our elders and I believe this step will help our Church grow in biblical health as we cultivate what we want to be a biblical plurality of leadership among us and as we grow in our efforts to reach people who are far from the Church with the gospel.

So who is Mike Kelsey? You may remember from a few years ago when we reported that Kelsey said in a podcast that he wanted to “torch all white people” because they weren’t woke like him. Here’s what we wrote at the time:

During an interview with Evangelical podcaster, Jennie Allen, Mike Kelsey–co-pastor at McLean Bible Church in Virginia with David Platt–said that it was difficult for him “not to torch all white people.”

This level of racism, whether spoken or indeed, should be intolerable among the Church of Jesus Christ. Instead, people like Kelsey are elevated to positions of leadership they are unqualified for.

This is not a matter of bridling the tongue–this is a matter of out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). In other words, Mike Kelsey has exposed his racism and made it clear that his heart, mind, and soul have not been transformed by the gospel because, in fact, he still carries such a burden of hatred within him.

I’m not sure it’s safe to say that someone with this mindset is really going to help this church, which has been embittered with division and strife since Platt took over, heal. Here’s a clip of Kelsey’s remarks:

Check Out the New “Jesus Mecha Christ” “Transformer” Toy

A transforming Christ-meets-mecha toy? Yes, the “Jesus Mecha Christ” transforming toy actually exists. It's like someone sat down and said, “How can I mock both God and basic decency in one fell swoop?” This isn’t art or satire—it’s an abomination born from the unholy...

Christmas Hymn Review: Away in a Manger

Christmas Song Review: Yes, Mary Did Know
