It is a travesty that many so-called “professors of Christ” have turned Jesus into an idol, using Him as a tool to fulfill their own selfish desires. This type of false teaching is especially prevalent in charismatic circles, where God is treated as a genie in a bottle that can be summoned to do our bidding. This kind of thinking puts man above God, making Him subservient to us.

But Jesus is not some genie that exists to grant our every wish and desire. He is so much more than that. Jesus is our Lord and Savior, the one who willingly suffered and died on the cross to reconcile us to God and offer us the gift of salvation. His purpose was not to fulfill our selfish desires, but rather to fulfill His own divine purpose as the Messiah, the Son of God, and the one sent to redeem and save His people.

Jesus is not a distant deity who is removed from our lives and uninvolved in our struggles and joys. In fact, He is the Lord, the creator and sustainer of all things, and He is deeply involved in our lives. He knows and cares for us intimately. Jesus is our advocate, standing up for us at the cross and interceding for us before the Father. He is the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for His sheep, and He continues to lead and guide us through His Word and by His Spirit.

It is essential that we understand and accept the fact that God, in His sovereignty and wisdom, has determined what is best for us. His ways and thoughts are infinitely higher than our own (Isaiah 55:9). We must not question His plan or try to impose our own will on Him.

We must trust that God knows what He is doing and that His purposes are good. He is a loving and faithful God who desires the best for His children. Even when we cannot understand His ways or when we face difficult and painful circumstances, we can trust that He is working everything together for our good and His glory (Romans 8:28).

As believers in Jesus, we are called to worship Him and give Him the glory that He is due. We are also called to align our wills with His, seeking to do His will and fulfill His purposes rather than just seeking to gratify our own desires. When we pray, we should pray for His will to be done, not just for our own personal wishes to be granted. We should submit our lives to Him in obedience to His Word, following His commands and seeking to please Him in all that we do. This may not always be easy, especially in a world that often contradicts and opposes the ways of God. But it is worth it, because through our submission to Jesus, we can experience true joy, peace, and purpose in this life and eternal life in the next. We can also bring honor and glory to God, as we reflect His character and share His love with those around us.
