Cameron Bertuzzi, a popular Christian apologist who is known for his YouTube channel, Capturing Christ, where he attempts to defend Christianity not from a biblical perspective, but from a secular philosophical approach, announced yesterday that he was no longer Protestant and is in the process of converting to Roman Catholicism.
Bertuzzi has held debates on his channel between Catholics and Protestants as well as atheists and other religions but said he would be “phasing out of that content” and the channel would be returning to its roots of “defending mere Christianity.”
“So, the big announcement is that on Sept. 20, 2022, I decided to become Catholic. I’m currently in an RCIA program and will be confirmed this coming Easter,” Bertuzzi said on YouTube. The announcement comes after Bertuzzi said he decided he would conduct a “deep study into the evidence for and against the papacy.”
“As a Protestant, I went into the study with an open mind. Ultimately, I told myself that I would follow the evidence wherever it leads, even if that conclusion is uncomfortable for me or for my family,” Bertuzzi said stating that his Protestant friends were very confident that his study would lead to a deeper confirmation of his Protestant faith.

Sadly, Bertuzzi gave up Biblical authority during his time hosting debates between Protestants and Catholics, atheists, and others and that’s when Dr. James White of Alpha and Omega Ministries says it became clear that it was just a matter of time before Bertuzzi abandoned the Protestant faith.
In a podcast from May 2022, James White discussed Bertuzzi’s approach to apologetics noting that he didn’t sound like he knew what he believed, he wasn’t theologically formed, and that he probably shouldn’t be doing apologetics. “He’s approaching this as a philosophical question, doing Bayesian statistical analysis of arguments,” White said, “and that’s not why I do apologetics. I’m a biblical Trinitarian, I believe in a biblical gospel, I do apologetics because I believe the Bible is the Word of God.”
Bertuzzi, however, says his Protestant friends “were wrong” and that what he found was that “the evidence strongly suggests that the papacy is true.”
“So, if you’re interested in my reasons for conversion, the impact this decision has had on me and my family, and all the rest,” Bertuzzi said, then you can join him and Matt Fradd during a live podcast from the Vatican on November 18.
Many of these de-conversions from Christian Protestantism have occurred over the last several years. In 2017, Hank Hanegraaf, also known as The Bible Answer Man, made headlines after he departed the Christian faith for Greek Orthodoxy.
