If there has been a more blatant example of Matthew 19:24 being played out in modern times than the Furtick family, I’ve not seen it. Jesus’s words were clear, “it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”
Earlier this year, Furtick, pastor of Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC, made headlines after he praised his son, Elijah’s online music videos that contained lyrics referencing oral sex and drinking liquor. Elijah was only 16 when the Christian Post reported this.
But Elijah’s love of money hasn’t diminished since then—in fact, in one of the latest songs released on his YouTube Channel, he talks about how great his life is because of his money.
There is, of course, no reference to the gospel, the death, burial, resurrection, or ascension of Jesus Christ, or to anything godly as his reason for his life being so “great” in this video. And we can only assume that this is because, sadly, his father, the pastor of the largest Church in North Carolina, has never actually preached the gospel.

Steven Furtick has been hand-crafted by his mentor, Trinity-denier, T.D. Jakes has been the motivation and inspiration for his style of self-help preaching. Whether it be Furtick saying that God will bless your sins, denying God’s sovereignty over man, lying about baptism numbers, hosting a non-Trinitarian fraud at his church, claiming that Jesus sinned, saying that , or comparing Jesus to a gay rapper, there is no doubt that Furtick’s theological understanding of God is severely lacking.
