In an age that has all but completely abandoned God, it should come as no surprise that people have all but abandoned God’s image as well. Human beings are created in the Image of God and are, according to God, set apart from other creatures specifically to reflect His glory.

In the Garden, God gave Adam and Eve dominion over the animals, even the right to name them and to use them for their purpose. After the fall and after the flood, God gave further permission to eat the meat of animals. It is clear that God created animals to be subservient to man.

But in our day and our modern culture, animals have been elevated to a place not only much higher than the image-bearers of God but above God HImself. Romans 1 speaks to this, it says,

Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

Romans 1:22-23

In absolute rebellion to God, activists will push for the right for women to abort their children while in the same breath advocate for the end of the use of animals for food. The same people who want to expand access to abortion want to end all hunting and fishing. Why? Because the enemy hates God and in an effort to eliminate God, the reflection of God is hated and attacked.

In a recent survey by I Love You and You, it was found that over one-third of pet owners prefer the pets over their own children. Over two-thirds said their pet was their “best friend,” and seventy-eight percent said that their pet was part of their family. In fact, it is quite interesting the extent to which pet owners will go to worship their animals.
