Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols?

2 Corinthians 6:14-16

When parents send their Christian students off to high school and college, many of them hope they will not fall away from the faith. Parents often place their hope in faith-based campus ministries to help sustain their Christian student’s life. One of those ministries who is well-known in conservative Christian circles is CRU — formerly Campus Crusade for Christ.

Reformation Charlotte previously reported on one of CRU’s notable speakers who also happens to be a contributor for The Gospel Coalition explaining to an audience of young students that it is okay to be gay. She attempted to justify homosexual desire stating that there is no command in Scripture to be “straight” and one can identify as gay so long as they don’t engage in intercourse with someone of the same sex.

The entire embrace of LGBTQ in the “gay Christian celibacy” movement is rooted in the notion that homosexual desire in and of itself is normal and will likely not change upon salvation and regeneration, let alone sanctification. In other words, God will not change a gay Christian’s desire, therefore, it’s okay to live with that desire.

It’s bad enough that impressionable students and their parents are having to contend with the onslaught of gay propaganda coming from their child’s school, but to have to contend with it coming from ministries that purport to be Christian makes the task daunting. Besides pushing the gay acceptance narrative, CRU is also partnering with LGBTQ activist groups on campus for what they call a “common cause.”

In an article written by CRU staff member, Gilbert Kingsley, Kingsley notes that,

One of the Student LINC coaches, Daniel Hensley, told recently that one of the Cru ministries he coaches partnered with the LGBTQ group on campus. They got together to collect clothes for a shelter.

What exactly is the “common cause?” Is it social justice? While we are called to clothe and feed the poor, we are not called to join hands with God-haters to do so. In fact, we are called to do the exact opposite as stated in 2 Corinthians 6:14-16 posted above. As Christians, our purpose for feeding and clothing the poor is to glorify God and to proclaim His son’s name. We don’t do it for the mere purpose of doing it — we are privileged to do it in order to show God’s glory. How is it showing God’s glory when you’re standing with homosexuals on “common ground” who are doing the same thing?

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the Christian’s primary cause. The reason we are not to be partnered with unbelievers for Christian ministry is that it is impossible to proclaim the gospel while doing so. The gospel is watered-down and even made to no effect when Christians link arms with gays for ministry work.

It is clear that CRU has derailed from its gospel-centered mission-minded origins and has embraced the gospel of social justice. It has embraced a gospel that is proclaimed by the world, not by Christians. A gospel of tolerance and a gospel of works righteousness. Another gospel, as warned by the Apostle Paul would make them anathema.

We Need to Address the Church’s Bondage to Hollywood
