Having a lot of Bible verses memorized is extremely rewarding. The more I have successfully memorized Scripture the more fruit I have found in my prayer life, evangelism, and Bible reading. I want to give you all some of my favorite Scriptures about Christ. I decided to choose some that were very small in size and yet contain a real punch of strong Christology. I would encourage you to pick one and try memorizing it.

Colossians 2:8-10 (ESV)

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.

Colossians is such a small book, yet it is laden with Christological treasure. I love this verse because it reminds me that in all that I do and all that I hear, I must first sanctify Christ as Lord. The object and foundation of the Christian faith is not an ideology or lifestyle, it is the very person of Christ.

Galatians 3:13 (ESV)

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree

I love this verse. I reflect on it often. I am incapable of keeping the whole law. I fail every day. This verse reminds me that I can never be saved by anything else but the work of Christ on the cross. I will boast in nothing I have done. Jesus saved me by becoming a curse on my behalf.

Matthew 1:21 (ESV)

She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.

I love how this verse brings the focus of Christ life and death for one singular purpose, to save His people from their sins. Jesus did not come attempting to save every individual only to fail because they would not exercise their free-will to chose Him back. No, rather Christ came for His chosen bride and he will save them. Salvation is guaranteed to those whom Christ came to save.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (ESV)

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Jesus didn’t save His people from the wrath of Satan; Jesus saved us from the wrath of God. Jesus endured the just penalty for sin and was thus judged by God in order that we, the believing, might be declared righteous. We now can walk in peace with God because Christ bore all the wrath of God and the righteousness of His sinless life applies to us by divine declaration.

Isaiah 53:5 (ESV)

But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

Isaiah 53 resounds with me. It is my favorite chapter in all the Old Testament. It shows that Christ was the one ordained by God to be the Savior of His people. I would recommend you try to memorize all of Isaiah 53. I am currently trying to memorize more of it. Verse five plainly states the reality of penal-substitutionary atonement. Jesus took our place.

Every time I go open-air preach I often find myself reciting these very verses. They are not hard to memorize and they pack so much theological truth. Theses verse force you to look at the gospel for what it is, good news. You and I could not save ourselves. We were lost and doomed. Thankfully we have a Champion who bore our shame and endured the cross. His name is Jesus Christ and He deserves to be praised. These verses are nuggets of gold. Keep them close to your heart.
