Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”

Gen 2:18

We live in a society that worships sex. We worship all forms of sexual perversions. With gay pride parades, women wearing genital mascots, and access to porn on demand — we have disgraced the beautiful gift of sex in our culture.

We must face the reality that we live in God’s world. We must play by His rules. The God of all creation has blessed humanity with a special union in a covenant called marriage.

In marriage, a man and a woman are given to each other by God. The man pledges his life, his mind, his time and all he has to the women and she does the same. The act of sex is the covenant blessing to be shared between these two as a sign that God has joined them together.

It’s in this union and blessing of sex that humanity is spread. From the love and commitment of these two comes life. The vows they have taken are binding until death. Thus until death, the man’s body belongs to the woman and the woman’s body to the man and no one else. This is the natural and good use of sex. This is God’s beautiful design.

We have traded that design for the perversion of voyeurism. Instead of pursuing God’s perfect design for man and women, men have sought the computer. Instead of participating in a commitment to another person, we have decided to worship our own selfish needs at the altar of pornography.

We justify this as normal. We call this perversion natural. No one should be ashamed of their porn addiction. Married couples are even encouraged to watch porn together. We have pretended like there is nothing wrong with a man sitting in his computer chair visually consuming hours of porn.

However, Christ presents a different narrative. He says:

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.

Matt 5:27-30

Jesus says that the consequences of our lustful actions are the eternal fires of hell. We need to heed that warning. There is nothing natural about watching porn, as a matter of fact, it is actually evil.

I confess, as a man living in the twenty-first century, I am not guiltless. No man has kept his eyes from stumbling. All men sin and fall short of the glory of God.

That’s why we have such a hope in Jesus. He is the God-man who lived a perfect life and was crucified on behalf and rose again to give us life. The Bible teaches that lust is evil, but also that “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

2 Cor. 5:21

Jesus went to the cross to save sinners. Now He commands all men everywhere to repent. If you are a man, addicted to pornography, repent. Turn from your sin and trust in the saving work of Jesus. You can know freedom in Christ. You can find peace and healing in His arms.
