With a propensity toward obsessive physical contact, a blatant disregard for personal space, and multiple unprotected sex partners, it’s no wonder that the gay night club scene is a ripe environment for the spread of any disease, including the novel coronavirus.

While politicians are busy blaming the spread of the disease on Christians and even implementing drastic requirements for churches to meet that would have the entire congregation stay in constant motion during the worship service — despite the absurdity of that requirement — gay night clubs in South Korea appear to be at the root of a recent outbreak in the party district of Itaewon in Seoul.

The gay scene is already a hotbed for diseases and the gay community is no stranger to pandemics of deadly viruses. Responsible for the wide spreading of the HIV virus, homosexuals’ disregard for safe physical contact with strangers is a typical characteristic of the community that has proven to be detrimental to society time and time again.

According to a report at The Advocate, the South Korean government believes that a single 29-year-old gay man who visited at least 5 gay clubs in one night is now responsible for exposing at least 1500 people to the virus — 14 of whom have already tested positive.As it was the first local infection in four days, the incident has reignited fears of community spreading — and anti-LGBTQ+ sentiments. South Korean officials and media reports have emphasized that the infections happened in gay bars, which advocacy groups believe is a way to blame the outbreak on the LGBTQ+ community. Human rights groups say this kind of reporting is “unnecessary” and “could incite hatred toward LGBT people and hinder the government’s efforts to contain the spread of the virus,” The Korea Herald reports.
