In a recent survey by the Public Religion Research Institute, a striking demographic shift has emerged among Generation Z, those born between 1997 and 2012, in the United States. The findings, which garnered significant attention, reveal that over 25% of Gen Z adults now identify as LGBTQ. This figure is notably higher than previous generations, with only 16% of millennials, 7% of Generation X, and a mere 4% of baby boomers sharing this identification.
These statistics not only highlight a significant change in the identification patterns among younger generations but also demonstrate the evolving landscape of social attitudes towards aberrant sexual behavior. The survey, conducted from August 21 to September 15 with over 6,000 participants aged 13 to 25, covers much of the implications of this demographic shift and provides insights into the changing perceptions and self-identifications of American youth.
This trend among Gen Z is accompanied, of course, by a broader liberal leaning, with nearly 50% of the generation identifying as such. The poll also found a notable decrease in religious affiliation among Gen Z, with 33% claiming a non-religious status. This tendency towards liberalism and decreased religious affiliation are important influential factors in the growing openness and acceptance of perverse sexual and gender behaviors.
In the face of these statistics, a clear and disturbing trend emerges—one that staunchly opposes the moral standard of God revealed in Scripture. This phenomenon, far from being a mere societal shift in attitudes, signifies a deeper, more profound crisis—a marked decrease in the Church’s influence and a rampant increase in rebellion against God. As in the days of Noah?

The Bible, specifically in Romans 1, speaks unequivocally about the wrath of God being poured out upon societies that turn their backs on Him, giving them over to the lusts of the flesh. The alarming rise in young people embracing these aberrant sexual behaviors and identities is not just a social trend—it’s a spiritual crisis, a testament to a generation blinded by the deceit of sin and a culture that celebrates deviation from God’s design as “diversity.”
This trajectory towards embracing what is biblically aberrant is not only deviant but a deliberate defiance against the Creator. It’s also increasingly evident that a significant portion of these young people do not genuinely harbor homosexual desires but rather choose to identify with such labels as a form of coalition with those who hate God. This choice, a calculated affront to the Divine order, is a clear indication of society enslaved to the flesh, prioritizing worldly acceptance over eternal truth.
Not to mention, the audacity to redefine what has been biblically established speaks to the shameless boldness that defies God’s sacred creation order which is not merely about personal identity or self-expression. Rather, it is, at its core, a spiritual battle. This battle is against principalities and powers that seek to distort and destroy the image of God in humanity. The embracing of LGBTQ identities, especially among the youth, is symptomatic of a broader cultural decay, where moral absolutes are discarded, and relativism reigns supreme.
It is important, now more than ever, for the Church to stand firm in its biblical convictions and to speak truth into this moral chaos. The Church must not shirk back in fear of being labeled intolerant, such as Alistair Begg has recently done. The Church must compassionately and uncompromisingly proclaim the regenerative power of the gospel. The truth of Christ offers freedom from the bondage of sin, including sexual immorality. The Church’s role is to point out the truth in love, confront sin, and point those who are enslaved to it to the freedom that can only be found in the redemptive cross of Christ.
The surge in young people identifying as LGBTQ is a stark reminder of the urgent need for a revival of biblical truth in our society. It is a call for the Church to earnestly pray and actively work towards reclaiming the cultural narrative with the unchanging truth of God’s Word. As Christians, we are called to be light in the midst of darkness, offering hope to a generation ensnared by the lies of the enemy. It is through unwavering faith and steadfast commitment to Scripture that hearts can be turned back to God, and lives can be transformed by His redeeming love. Sadly, those who reject this good news will spend eternity in regret.
