Like Her Father, Tony Evans, Priscilla Shirer Preaches Trinitarian Heresy from the Pulpit

Tony Evans, a prominent Evangelical pastor with close ties to the Southern Baptist Convention, has been on a roll lately with aberrant theology and false teachings. Evans, who has now partnered with former Southern Baptist Convention president, Ed Litton, to push a social welfare agenda, holds to the Pelagian heresy denying the doctrine of original sin.

In 2022, during the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting, Evans preached a sermon demonstrating a bizarre view of the Trinity using a pretzel illustration. This illustration was closely aligned with the anti-Trinitarian heresy known as partialism. But it seems that these strange heterodox views on the Trinity run in the family.

In a recently uncovered video clip, Priscilla Shirer, Tony Evans’ daughter—who already shouldn’t be standing in the pulpit, to begin with—preached another aberrant, heretical view of the Trinity that appears closely aligned with modalism.

Priscilla Shirer’s description of God as changing forms—from God the Father to God incarnate in flesh—bears striking resemblance to the heresy of Sabellian modalism. This ancient theological error essentially suggests that God is a single Person who manifests Himself in different “modes” or “roles” at different times. In other words, according to this heresy, God is sometimes the Father, sometimes the Son, and sometimes the Holy Spirit, rather than being three distinct Persons in one Godhead as the orthodox Trinitarian doctrine teaches.

In orthodox, biblical theology, God exists as three Persons concurrently, not in shifting modes. Matthew’s account of Jesus’ baptism and John’s opening gospel both affirm the coexistence of the Trinity. If you can’t get the Trinity right, you have no business in a pulpit. Mangling this essential doctrine isn’t just a minor error—it’s a failure to accurately represent the God of the Bible. Teaching such heresy doesn’t just risk theological confusion, it jeopardizes the integrity of the faith itself. It seems that none of this matters, though, as the Southern Baptist Convention continues to push both of their works through LifeWay, promote their conferences and speaking engagements, and peddle their heresies as long as they toe the line of the social gospel.
