A few weeks ago during an NFL game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin experienced a cardiac arrest during a game that drew speculation from people all over the world. The 24-year-old received medical attention at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and is in critical condition, under sedation.

Hamlin claims that he is a devout Christian who attended Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh where he was a star football player. He was team captain and a highly sought-after recruit, earning awards such as defensive player of the year. The school has expressed its support for Hamlin and his family during this difficult time.

The football player chose to attend the University of Pittsburgh so he could stay close to his family. Hamlin has spoken about his faith, stating that he trusts God’s plan for him. His family, especially his mother, seems to be very important to him. Hamlin’s mother was at the game when he collapsed and was taken to the hospital to be by his side.

Hamlin comes from a supposedly close-knit family and values his family’s opinions and claims that his life revolves around his mother, father, and younger brother. Hamlin’s parents, he says, raised him to understand the importance of hard work and taught him life lessons from a young age.

So then, is this how he repays Christ for giving him another chance at life after his near-death experience? By wearing a jacket that makes a mockery of Christ’s death on the cross? Hamlin, who was seen on the sidelines hanging out with the players during the Super Bowl game, may have had the wind knocked out of him, but clearly did not have the blasphemy knocked out of him. This image goes far beyond a violation of the 2nd Commandment.
