We Don’t Negotiate With Terrorists: Conversations About Welfare Programs Don’t Start Until Abortion is Illegal

Probably the only thing George W. Bush ever said that I could agree with is that “we don’t negotiate with terrorists.” The statement, in and of itself, is a blanketly true statement that at the time was directed toward Islamic extremists causing terror around the world. But the statement should also apply to the Christian’s approach to terrorism.

In today’s post-Roe American nation, abortion is still legal to some degree in every state. Why is it legal? Because those who claim to oppose it always end up negotiating some form of compromise with the left. The pro-life movement gives lip service to ending abortion, but the methodology always results in failure.

Abortion is murder. And it is a form of mass organized murder that results in the terrorization of a single people group—unborn children. The mantra from the left, which has been adopted by many who claim to be Christians, is “safe, legal, and rare.” But, in recent years, the left has completely dropped the “rare” and are all-in on mass murdering the most vulnerable people group in the world.

But it’s sad that so many in the Church have even adopted, on some level, this same compromised reasoning. Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) president, Brent Leatherwood, argues incessantly in favor of protecting mothers who seek abortions from prosecution.

In fact, Brent Leatherwood recently signed a joint letter calling on politicians not to criminalize women having abortions.

“Women are victims of abortion,” the letter reads, “and require our compassion and support as well as ready access to counseling and social services in the days, weeks, months, and years following an abortion.”

So how can these people argue out of one side of their mouths that they are “pro-life” and want to end abortion but at the same time argue that mothers who seek abortions shouldn’t be penalized for it? Because this is a form of negotiation with terrorists. This is a form of compromising one’s convictions to appease the left—the left that wants to legalize abortion across the board and even make it mandatory in some situations. The left isn’t interested in compromising, the left will not stop until they’ve trampled all over us and win. Therefore, we must fight.

We cannot negotiate with these terrorists and anyone who does try to negotiate with them should be considered friendly to them and enemies to God and His truth. God hates abortion. Of course, the gospel is the solution to the sin problem in the hearts of individuals, but God has established His institution of the civil government in order the wield the sword and punish those who practice evil. Abortion is evil, and Christians must support making abortion illegal across the board. We cannot accept anything less than that. That is the difference between abolitionists and the mainstream, compromised pro-life movement that is passed off as Christianity in the Evangelical Church today.
