Remember when Southeastern Baptist University Professor, Karen Swallow Prior, complained that calling abortion “murder” was un-Christlike? Well, here is the manifestation of the postmodern thinking ingrained in these progressives’ reasoning.
A new bill in Maryland is now seeking to legalize the murder of infants up to 28 days after birth. Maryland Senate Bill 669, introduced by Senator Smith, seeks to repeal current legislation and criminal code involving the investigation and prosecution of people who committed murder and replace it with legislation that would essentially decriminalize the killing of infant children by virtue of “failure to act.”
The new bill explains that for a person to be prosecuted for murder, he or she must have
- intended to cause the death of the viable fetus;
- intended to cause serious physical injury to the viable fetus; or
- wantonly or recklessly disregarded the likelihood that the person’s actions would cause the death of or serious physical injury to the viable fetus.
The bill goes on to explain that “Nothing in this section applies to or infringes on a [woman’s] PREGNANT PERSON’S right to terminate a pregnancy”

But here’s where this bill gets really dark and disgusting—not that abortion itself already isn’t dark and disgusting. But this would be the first legislation, if passed, that decriminalized the post-birth killing of a child. The bill explains that:
A PERSON MAY BRING A CAUSE OF ACTION FOR DAMAGES IF THE PERSON WAS SUBJECT TO UNLAWFUL ARREST OR CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION FOR A VIOLATION OF THIS SECTION AS A RESULT OF: … EXPERIENCING A MISCARRIAGE, STILLBIRTH, OR PERINATAL DEATH.
Notice the word used here is PERINATAL, not PRENATAL. In other words, if a woman is investigated or charged with any crime for the death of a child up to four weeks after birth, she could sue the police department for damages. According to research by the pro-life organization, LifeNews, perinatal is medically defined by the gestation age of up to 28 days after birth.
Here is how LifeNews explained this:
Again, there is no clear definition of the term “perinatal” in the Maryland Code. Note the term used in the legislation is “perinatal,” not prenatal. Prenatal naturally means “before” birth. The medical definition of “perinatal” is vastly different: “The perinatal period is defined in diverse ways. Depending on the definition, it starts at the 20th to 28th week of gestation and ends 1 to 4 weeks after birth.”
Of course, we believe that such a horrendous bill is not only ungodly, but it is also unconstitutional and a clear violation of one’s right to life. Yet, since the Roe v. Wade decision, the right to life in the United States has essentially been nullified. The killing of innocent children in the womb—and now, the push to kill them outside the womb—is a clear demonstration of the judgment and wrath of God on this nation and the world.
