Popular Evangelical Mag Says the Church Should Consult Pagans on How to be a Light to the World

A highly popular progressive Evangelical outlet, Relevant Magazine–which is operated by Cameron Strang, son of Charisma Magazine’s Steve Strang–has made its name for standing in opposition to pretty much everything his dad’s publication stands for, both theologically and politically. In other words, while Charisma tends to be politically and socially conservative, Relevant tends to spend most of its time whining and railing against conservatives for acting like conservatives.

And not that Charisma is worth reading–if you’re a Christian, you may hold to some of the same political positions as they do. But Relevant Magazine is complete theological and ideological trash. It is fully on board with the woke church movement and has traded the gospel for the social justice movement.

This is why these people can literally suggest that the Church consult with Pagans–rather than Scripture–on the best way to be a light to the world.

In a September article titled Why We Should Listen to Non-Christians, the author starts by complaining that John MacArthur fought to reopen his church while Los Angeles and the State of California implemented strict measures to shut churches down. “MacArthur could have been compliant in the name of loving one’s neighbor—which both Christians and non-Christians could understand,” he writes. “Instead, his actions suggested to the secular media that he ‘doesn’t care about…[people’s] wellbeing.'”

Besides the fact that these shutdowns were completely unnecessary, did far more damage than good, and were designed from the very beginning to serve as a restriction against religious freedoms and the First Amendment, the Church does not exist for the progressive purpose of “loving one’s neighbor.” Of course, the Church does love our neighbors–it is a natural outworking of the body of Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit in Christians. We show love to our neighbors in many ways–one is by preaching the truth to them.

But Relevant has a different idea. Instead, Christians should be consulting the world on the best way to reach them. Never mind that Jesus tells us to go out…GO OUT…into the world and make disciples. No Relevant has a better way:

“If American evangelicalism is to improve its witness in the 2020s,” the article states, “we need to cultivate a special kind of listening, where we do not simply endure the opinions of non-Christians to be polite.”

“We listen to learn how to embody Jesus to our world,” the article continued.

Let that sink in; we need to listen to the world to learn how to embody Jesus to them. As if Jesus doesn’t know the best way to reach people. Here’s what we’re told in Scripture:

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” –Romans 10:1-15

Yet, Relevant wants us to believe that what the world thinks is foolishness will not be lost on them so long as we listen to them?

For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. –1 Corinthians 1:18

The author’s concerns appear to be that the Church is seen as unloving and hypocritical. He seems to think that it isn’t the Word of God preached that draws men to Christ, but somehow caving to some shallow demands of the world is going to make us more palatable to the lost. The world doesn’t care; the world wants us gone. They are of their father the devil and you can rest assured that whatever seeker-sensitive baloney your mind can contrive will have zero–literally zero–effect on how the Holy Spirit works in the hearts of the lost. So just stop it!
